Trip No.34 Entry No.35 Date Added: 9th Nov 2019
Site Type: Long Barrow
Country: Germany (Lower Saxony, Bremen)
Visited: Yes on 9th Sep 2019. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3 Access 5

Wietzetze Steingrab 2 submitted by holger_rix on 15th Sep 2009. Wietzetze 2 is located right in the middle of a big forest, very close to a railway. It looked like somebody had taken care to clean the barrow not too long time ago. So you could walk arround and see those complete lines of kerbstones on both sides.
The long mound is still high, the chamber deep in the ground.

Wietzetze Langbett 1 submitted by holger_rix on 16th Sep 2009. My second visit. I didn't expect any change, but fellow krautrock never saw this barrow.
But what a surprise ! This beautiful 50m Long Barrow was very overgrown in 2007, and now it was perfectly cleaned. Like that we could admire the barrow in a total view.

Werpeloh Steingrab 5 submitted by Martin_L on 10th May 2011. Werpeloh V viewed (pole aerial) from the North.
Chamber measuring appr. 6m by 3,2m [1]. It is halfway exposed, the dry-walling is robbed, but all ortostats are preserved and in situ, except for the western entrance orthostat (EW). The 3 capstones collapsed into the chamber (C1-C3). The chamber probably had a more unusual entrance in the South consisting of two orthostats (EW and EW) set slightly inwards beside the orthostats W3 and E3. In contrast Werpeloh IV just 12m to the West is a classic ...

The smoothed granite surfaces of these orthostats are clearly visible and give some impression of the original character of this neolithic monument. May 2009
