Pierre du Pôt submitted by theCaptain on 2nd Jan 2014. The Pierre du Pôt menhir has been re-erected in the Arboretum at Ussy. It is a nicely shaped stone, and is about 2.5 metres tall.

The excavated remains of this large round barrow with 12 internal burial chambers is fenced off within a field of rapeseed. What was once a guardian with a key to the site in the nearby house was today a lady who told me that “Il est fermée monsieur”.

This was a lovely visit in the early morning sun, with dew and a bit of frost making everything sparkle, and some happy and contented cows wandering around in the surrounding fields.

Looking approximately northwards at the eastern (entrance) end. As well as the large stones of the central chamber, many of the smaller stones which once made up a kerb to the covering mound, and some sort of entrance facia still survive.
The more ruined northern allée Couverte can be seen in the background.
