Mas Capelier 1 menhir-statue submitted by ocdolmen on 26th Apr 2006. Mas Capelier menhir-statue, Aveyron, France (0.75 m high, white sandstone).
In the joining areas of the départements of Aveyron, the Tarn and Herault, the area of Rouergue offers a total of around fifty of these inscribed sandstone menhirs, stylistically similar, to which the work here belongs.
It was fortuitously discovered in 1886, at the same time as another inscribed menhir now disappeared.
The monolith formerly stood out of the ground as a menhir. It represents a woman on foot w...

Marienborn Opferstein
Trip No.46 Entry No.3 Date Added: 26th Oct 2020
Site Type: Chambered Tomb
Country: Germany (Saxony-Anhalt)
Visited: Yes on 9th Sep 2020. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 4 Access 3
Marienborn Opferstein submitted by AlexHunger on 2nd Oct 2005. Marienborn Opferstein, in Sachsen-Anhalt. 3 stones of this unrestored Alee Couverte are isible. Little research was done here on account of the proximity to the former Iron Curtain located just to the west. There are further tumuli to the south east, which are also not excavated.
This stone is unusual on account of the 2 bucket sized indentations, which led the stone to be named "Sacrifice Stone".

Marienborn Menhir submitted by AlexHunger on 26th Oct 2004. This Menhir stands in the center of the small pilgrimage town of Marienborn, about 12 Km east of Helmstedt in Saxony. I am not certain if it is original, but it would be proba-bly that it has been moved at some point as there once was quite a lot of building in and around the monastery and orangerie that represent the center of town. There are quite a few sites scattered around this small town, which I was not able to visit due to logistics constraints: Teufelsgrund (Devil’s Ground), Opferstei...

Marden Henge
Trip No.15 Entry No.5 Date Added: 6th May 2018
Site Type: Henge
Country: England (Wiltshire)
Visited: Yes on 29th Jun 2010. My rating: Access 5

Marden Henge submitted by Jansold on 24th Jul 2015. View of excavations during summer 2015.
Marden Henge is the biggest henge in England but because it did not have a stone circle associated with it, has tended to be overlooked. A huge mound, like a smaller version of Silbury Hill, named Hatfield Barrow, once existed within the henge, but it was levelled in the 19th C.
Foundations have been excavated within the henge that could have been a Neolithic sauna, containing a sunken hearth that would have given out intense heat.

You'd be forgiven for thinking this is a dolmen, and it is locally listed as such, but Burl sets you right. These stones were originally a passage grave with an earth mound on top
