Dolmen de la Madeleine d’Albesse
Trip No.38 Entry No.1 Date Added: 23rd Feb 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Languedoc:Aude (11))
Visited: Yes on 19th Jul 2001. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3 Access 4

Dolmen de la Madeleine d’Albesse submitted by thecaptain on 7th Mar 2006. The chamber itself is quite large, but a bit of a wreck these days. It looks to be a sort of V shaped chamber 6 metres in length and up to 3 metres wide
It is open to the east at about 118°, which looks right along the valley below the ridge.

Allée Couverte de Saint-Eugène
Trip No.38 Entry No.18 Date Added: 17th Mar 2020
Site Type: Passage Grave
Country: France (Languedoc:Aude (11))
Visited: Yes on 21st Jul 2001. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 5 Access 4

Allée Couverte de Saint-Eugène submitted by thecaptain on 14th Mar 2006. Up on top of a pine covered hill is an open flattish area, upon which is built this lovely tomb. It has all been much restored, so quite how much is original I do not know.
The first thing you see is a circular stone wall containing a stone cairn, about a metre high and about 25 metres in diameter, with upright slabs every 5 metres or so around its circumference. Within this is the remains of a massive structure, and a partitioned chamber.

La Pèira Dreta (Tournissan) submitted by richardfrance on 24th Feb 2008. It's a fairly clean-cut and rather phallic stone of 1.75 m. and has a face which could be said to point towards le Roc Troue - a suggestively gaping hole high up in a cliff above the village.
There is another menhir close by - with a story - to be visited soon.

Dolmen de Palats submitted by richardfrance on 6th Jun 2008. While there are only two stones remaining, the location - in the heart of the Corbieres - and the dolmen's emplacement - atop a clear tumulus in a fertile little valley - make this a site worth visiting.
The capstone is pear-shaped - nearly 3 m. long and over 2 m. wide.

Dolmen des Lacs 2 submitted by richardfrance on 28th Jan 2008. We found 2 & 3 at Les Lacs but ran out of time to search for the others. (see Les Lacs 2 for more, and www.dolmen.wordpress.com for more photos, archaeologist sketches, etchings from 19th.c. and more text).
