G1 Noordlaren
Trip No.3 Entry No.10 Date Added: 18th Dec 2017
Site Type: Passage Grave
Country: Netherlands (Groningen)
Visited: Yes on 16th Apr 2005. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 4

G1 Noordlaren submitted by Sunflowerbird on 9th Mar 2005. Noordlaren
Just over the border from Drenthe into Groningen province lies what remains of the G1 hunebed at Noordlaren. Actually, its just outside the village down a well signposted track in a small copse on the edge of wide fields. What's left is possibly only 15% of the original hunebed and is pretty impressive in its own right.

D54 Havelterberg submitted by Martin_L on 24th Sep 2010. The 7 capstone passage-grave viewed from the West. A stone visible to the right of the chamber probably is a remaining passage orthostat. The 12,65m by 3,30m [1] chamber is halfway embedded into the sandy ground. As in most cases only the megalithic skeleton remained. Drywalling, barrow and a possible enclosure are lost.

D52 Diever
Trip No.3 Entry No.3 Date Added: 16th Dec 2017
Site Type: Passage Grave
Country: Netherlands (Drenthe)
Visited: Yes on 15th Apr 2005. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3 Access 5

D52 Diever submitted by Martin_L on 15th Sep 2010. Pole aerial view from the south-east. The exposed skeleton (dry-walling and intermediate slabs robbed) of the partly reconstructed passage grave viewed from the south-east. While the eastern part is probably close to the original state the southwestern-part was quite disturbed [1] and the 1950s reconstruction is possibly incorrect. Entrance marked "E". The stone marked "P" was interpreted as the only remaining passage orthostat.

Only the tops of its uprights are visible. Hopefully the picture shows a bit of the fine ambience of this beautiful site (April 2009)

Country: Netherlands (Drenthe)
Visited: Yes on 18th Apr 2005. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3 Access 4

D46 Angelslo submitted by Martin_L on 9th Aug 2010. Oblique aerial from the West. When Prof. van Giffen examined this massive 9,5m x 3,5m chamber in the early 20th century the orthostats were still in situ except for N2, but the capstones were scattered around. One capstone is missing and one is only partly preserved (now used as C1). C2 shows tool-marks from historic destruction attempts. Van Giffen assumed the entrance between orthostats S3 and S4. The position is marked "E". No traces left of a possible passage or an enclosure.

Country: Netherlands (Drenthe)
Visited: Yes on 17th Apr 2005. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 4

D43 Emmen Schimmeres submitted by Sunflowerbird on 7th Mar 2005. Emmen Schimeres is the only 'langgraf' in the Netherlands and feels very much like Wayland's Smithy. It has a complete kerb of massive stones and its chambers are just beginning to show through what is left of its barrow. A monster and a beauty just on the outskirts of Emmen (off the Odoorn Road). Signposted. Opposite the Mazda garage.
