Boskednan stone circle

Boskednan stone circle submitted by JimChampion on 22nd Aug 2005. The portal stones illuminated by the last rays of the setting sun. The tallest one (on the left) has a diagonal groove present on this and the opposite side. The holes that the restored stones were raised from have been covered with pegged down foliage, presumably to encourage regrowth on the bare earth.

Boskednan Menhir 1

Boskednan Menhir 1 submitted by theCaptain on 14th Oct 2014. From my dim memories, I thought that the menhir was somewhere between the stone circle and the cairns along the path towards Men-an-Tol. On the way back I notice indeed there is a stump and perhaps a fallen stone right on the pathway where I was expecting it, is it remains of a pair? Pipers perhaps?

Boskednan A

Boskednan A submitted by AngieLake on 15th Oct 2004. This view of the 'destroyed barrow'/cairn near Carn Galva, shows its alignment with Ding Dong mine on the horizon. Boskednan circle is on slightly lower ground not far from here, and on an alignment between the 'barrow'/cairn and the mine building. The flat sides of the pointed stones face north/south. (This pic was taken at 4pm in March 2004). The stones sit on a higher ridge at 227m.

Four Parishes Rock

Four Parishes Rock submitted by Bladup on 4th Dec 2017. Four Parishes Rock, I believe the right hand side of this stone is a slightly different colour because it was once in the ground (for a long time), therefore making this a former Standing Stone. The weathering at the other end (left) is also going in the right direction if made when stood up. Ding Dong mine is visible on the right.

Foreground: 9 exposures of 30 seconds f/8.0 ISO 100 Sky: 300 exposures of 45 seconds f/4.0 ISO 1600 I find something magical about the process of creating a startrail picture. Sitting under the stars for three or four hours with no lights so my eyes have adjusted to the dark so well that I don't need any additional light. Gazing at the vastness of the universe, spotting meteors, satellites, aircraft, all in complete silence. I don't really sleep because ...

Figgy Dowdy's Well submitted by KiwiBetsy on 26th Aug 2006. According to RootsWeb.com, this well is also known as Maggy Figgy and Margery Daw and was a popular place to christen your doll on Good Friday. The well has been restored by the Carn Marth Preservation Group and is kept locked as a safety measure. I’m sure Figgy Dowdy would approve of this as the rhyme …. Figgy Dowdy had a well On the top of Carn Marth hill And she locked it night and day Lest they took her water away …. is associated with the well. To visit, ta...
