Mnajdra
Date Added: 8th Apr 2011
Site Type: Ancient Temple
Country: Malta (Mainland)
Visited: Yes on 9th Nov 2004

Mnajdra submitted by LizH on 9th Nov 2004. This stone has a pecked pattern across part of its surface. Lower down the pecking appears unfinished - or perhaps it is some decoration we don't really understand. The orthostat is on the east side of the east temple at Mnajdra.

Site Type: Ancient Temple
Country: Malta (Mainland)
Visited: Yes on 9th Nov 2004

Tarxien submitted by LizH on 9th Nov 2004. This orthostat from Tarxien, now in the archaeological museum in Valetta, has broad carved spirals. It stood opposite another, with similar, but slightly different spirals. I think this is the right hand one, but in all my careful notes, forgot to note this!

Probably a later site than the impressive tomb not far off. This was probably a boiling place, where hot stones were placed in water to cook.

I was on a minibus trip round Eday when I insisted on jumping out to take a picture of this; even though it was very misty. The other 6 people stayed firmly on the bus, although this was one of Eday's 'sights'. But despite the mist, I got a nice picture.

Becket's Well
Date Added: 8th Apr 2011
Site Type: Holy Well or Sacred Spring
Country: England (Northamptonshire)
Visited: Yes on 15th Jan 2005

Becket's Well submitted by LizH on 15th Jan 2005. Becket's well in Northampton is near the town centre, on a main road. I think it looks better from a distance, although even then to get a photograph you have to wait for the lights to change so there are no cars. This shows the structure housing the well, built in 1843.
