Site Type: Museum
Country: United States (The West)
Visited: Yes. My rating: Condition 5 Ambience 5 Access 5

Fremont Indian State Park submitted by Alta-Falisa on 30th Jul 2015. FREMONT PETROGLPHS Petroglyphs (etching in rocks) created, it is believed, by the Fremont people which lived in the area approximately from AD 600 - 1300. The Fremont people were contemporaries of the Ancestral Puebloans (Anasazi) of the Four Corners area. This is one panel of some of the many petroglyphs in the Captitol Reef Utah area. Though this panel is very high up on the rock face it is easily visible. Wish I could show it to you in the full 6000 pixels as it is so interesting.

Walnut Canyon Nat. Mon. submitted by DrewParsons on 8th Nov 2008. Walnut Canyon - one of the many homes built under cliff overhangs by the Sinagua ("without water") people who first arrived in this area around 600CE. Prior to that the area had been visited by nomadic Archaic peoples. The Sinagua homes remained undisturbed until the 1880's railway brought souvenir hunters who looted artifacts destroying walls to gain access. The site was declared a National Monument and so protected in 1915.
