Log Text: I was suffering from Stone-Fatigue after a week in and around Carnac. I opted to drive for 3 hours to Cairn de Barnenez as a relaxing change. The monument was well sign-posted. The entry fee was a reasonable 6 euros. The epic scale of Cairn de Barnenez was intimidating at first. There are 11 parallel dolmens in the cairn running SE-NW, however all but one of the passages are closed to the public. It took me 45 minutes to fully capture the essence of the monument. Cairn de Barnenez is a recommended visit.

Crucuno cromlech

Crucuno cromlech submitted by thecaptain on 21st Dec 2007. There are 22 remaining stones, on average 2 metres in height, arranged in a rectangle measuring about 33 metres by 25 metres.

Log Text: I struggle with the concept of rectangular "Stone Circles". I am conditioned to expect rectangular structures to be modern and stone circles to be ancient. I had the same problem with Quadlatiere du Manio. I left Cromlech de Crucuno with more questions than answers.

Log Text: Les Géants de Kerzerho are an impressive alignment of massive stones hidden in a grove of trees. They are a mix of massive standing stones, recumbent stones and stone rows. I also found a mysterious round holed stone. Even in Carnac, this site has a unique presence.

La Table du Sacrifice

La Table du Sacrifice submitted by LizH on 6th Nov 2007. In this picture, the furthest north stone (lying) can be seen. Behind it, however, at the back of the picture, this stone looks more as if it could be a 'table' and even possibly a 'sacrifice table' in the minds of those who named it. I am not sure which one is the official 'Table du sacrifice'.

Log Text: I explored the Alignement des Geants trying to identify La Table du Sacrifice. I found two strong candidates: an angled flat recumbent slab on the N end and a massive fallen dolmen/capstone in the middle of the alignment. The S stone had an an irregular surface and the E end was eroded.

Kerzerho Alignments Brittany, Morbihan 47.634690N 3.148402W GPS onsite You can still walk among the stones at Kerzerho (in 2002 at east) which are near Carnac but not quite so busy. Head up the D781 to Erdeven. You can park nearby, and from there you can also take the path to the large stones of the Table du Sacrifice

Crucuno dolmen

Crucuno dolmen submitted by thecaptain on 22nd Dec 2007. View of the southern side of this massive dolmen, showing clearly its proximity to the farmhouse. On the right are the last remaining capstone and pair of stones from the long entrance passageway.

Log Text: Dolmen de Crucuno is very easy to visit. It is situated adjacent to a house in the centre of Crucuno, a hamlet between Plouharnel and Erdeven. You 10m away from the monument. These facts don't make Dolmen de Crucuno any less impressive when you are standing beside it. A giant capstone measuring c. 7.5m long and weighing an estimated 40 tons is supported by 9 large orthostats.

Take the Crucuno turn off the D781 at the Toul Siac'h roundabout. After c. 0.8km turn right into a car park in the centre of the village opposite the dolmen.

From Carnac take the D781 towards Erdeven. Follow the D781 through two roundabouts in Plouharnel then turn right onto Rue Hoche to find the tumulus.

Log Text: I found Dolmen de Kervilor Mané-Bras by accident while looking for Dolmen de Kermarquer. I saw a wooden sign at 47.597594, -3.036248 on the roadside and followed the path through a wood for c. 200m to reach a large mound in a clearing.

Le Petit Ménec

Le Petit Ménec submitted by ermine on 6th Aug 2004. Confusingly, Petit-Menéc is in fact at the opposite, eastern end of the alignments to le Menéc village at the western end. You need to turn left onto the D186 main road after continuing from Kerlescan. After about 250m turn right into a minor road going past a forest, there is a clearing where you can park after about 400m. The menhirs are in the forest on your right, arranged in a gentle curve. You don't get the same clear overview of the alignments since the view is obscured by the trees, bu...

Log Text: Le Petit Ménec Alignments is a full stop E of the Carnac Alignments. The stone rows wind through a small wood. There is a more intimate atmosphere in this less frequented site than in the popular massive alignments.

Log Text: I was unsure what to make of this rectangular enclosure in the Manio forest. The stones are too short for it to be used for containment. The proximity of the Geant du Manio adds to its air of mystery.

Kerroc’h cromlech

Kerroc’h cromlech submitted by TheCaptain on 19th Feb 2011. Oppsite to the dolmen, the gently arced wall around the house (a strange large gatewayed studio) is made up using many large stones. Was there once some sort of cromlech here, like that at Crucuny?
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Having read the TheCaptain's account of a possible cromlech I took some pictures of the wall enclosing 42 Route de Kerroch. There does seem to be
visible evidence of this. There are similar stones incorporated into a wall adjacent to an old cross at 40 Route de Kerroch.

Kerroc'h dolmen

Kerroc'h dolmen submitted by TheCaptain on 19th Feb 2011. A capstone sits one end in the air on two supports, while the other side is on the ground. There is one more bit of large stone here, which may be a support, or may be a broken bit of capstone.

Log Text: Dolmen de Kerroc'h is located c. 1.2km S of Plouharnel in the hamlet of Kerroc'h. It is located on a patch of grass in the centre of Kerroc'h. The naked dolmen is small but worth a small diversion.
