Log Text: The walk to Culquhasen SE Cairn is not straightforward. This route involves a walk of 0.25 miles along the A747 Port William road. Care should be taken: cars tend to drive fast around a sharp corner. The cross country route is an assault course: It includes crossing 3 dry stane dykes and a burn but no electric fences fortunately. Wellies are essential for this walk due to the burn crossing. My route is viewable on Culquhasen SE.

Dolmen dit Lannek-er-Men

Dolmen dit Lannek-er-Men submitted by TheCaptain on 11th Jun 2011. This is a little dolmen sat on a green area outside a very pretty house. It has a little oval chamber, 3 metres by 2 metres, with an entrance to the east where there was perhaps once an entrance passageway.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Dolmen de Lannek-er-Men is located in Port Brillac, a small village c. 4 km NW of Sarzeau in Morbihan. The chamber of this dolmen measures c. 3m x 2m x 0.6m. Two medium-sized capstones are supported by several orthostats on the NE and SW sides. There is a large floor slab in the NW half of the chamber.

The dolmen is wedged into a corner against a hedge in a grassy area, used as a car park on my visit. In fact, a BMW bumper was almost touching the dolmen. My picture options were restricted to lateral views.

Dolmen du Crapaud

Dolmen du Crapaud submitted by thecaptain on 20th Jul 2006. Perched on its clifftop, overlooking the sea and a nice sandy beach, from certain angles this dolmen does indeed look like a toad poking its head up.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Dolmen du Crapaud is located on a cliff edge SE of Plage des Granges, S of Pen Lan (Penn Lann). The remains of this site have been much reduced by coastal erosion. The chamber resembles a toad viewed from N, hence the french name Dolmen du Crapaud.

Dolmens des Grays

Date Added: 23rd Sep 2023
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen Country: France (Bretagne:Morbihan (56))
Visited: Yes on 13th Sep 2023. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 5 Access 4

Dolmens des Grays

Dolmens des Grays submitted by thecaptain on 19th Jul 2006. East along the coast from Penlann headland are found the remains of this large cairn. It is difficult to make anything out nowadays, other than there are lots of large rocks on the remains of a large mound, overlooking the Villaine estuary. Closer inspection shows this to have once been a large 30 metre diameter cairn, with at least three passage tombs within it, two of which still have a few capstones in position.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Dolmens des Grays is located 5 minutes E along the coastal path starting in Pen Lan Car Park. At first sight the monument is a jumble of stones. There is an interpretation board, suggesting that the cairn consists of an amalgam of 3 separate tombs. It divides the cairn into Tomb A,B & C. They are in the N, SW & SE respectively.

Doon Castle (Broch)

Doon Castle (Broch) submitted by Andy B on 18th Apr 2010. A much better view of the landmark on a pleasant February day as promised after my first photo of this. Copyright Colin McDonald and licensed for reuse under the Creative Commons Licence.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Doon Castle Broch is my favourite local site to visit. The name may be confusing to some people because there is a Doon Castle in Ayrshire on Loch Doon. Doon Castle Broch is on Ardwell Point in Dumfries and Galloway.
A site of this quality deserves more visitors however the isolated location discourages people. There is the problem of the rocky road after West Ardwell Farm however it just requires careful driving on a short stretch to reach the Ardwell Bay car park. There is a sandy beach for non-antiquarians to amuse themselves while TMAers visit Doon Castle.

Doubler Stones submitted by DavidRaven on 18th May 2003. Two large rocks, weathered into curious forms. The upper surface of one has distinct cup-and-ring carvings. Even when the moor is teeming with visitors, this backwater is usually empty of folk.
