Log Text: Sibleyback Standing Stone is a high and handsome stone in an isolated location. It is erected at SX 24072 73838, c. 100 yards NW of a disused railway bed at the foot of Newell Tor. I walked SW from Kilmar Tor to access it. I would consider a GPS device essential to find this stone.

Log Text: I wasn't convinced about the stone circle interpretation: stone circles are usually erected on flat ground. If it was a cairn where did all the stones go? The two standing stones are ill-matched. Callanish VI is a difficult site to interpret.

Log Text: After a yomp over boggy moorland, it was somewhat underwhelming to find three short stones in a line. Maybe I have been spoilt by Cornish stone rows, up to half a mile long, but I struggled to appreciate the significance of Callenish V.

Log Text: For some unknown reason I prefer the simplicity of a small stone circle round a cairn to the complex arrangement of stones at Callanish I. Additionally, there is a greater satisfaction in a solitary visit to Callanish IV.

Callanish 3 submitted by Andy B on 13th Nov 2022. Bruce Adams, one of our members since 2012, sadly died last month - he had motor neurone disease. Bruce wrote: "Over the years I have assembled albums recording my visits to stone circles and related sites. I would very much like to pass these on to someone who will appreciate them. Log Text: Robin Hood's Stone is the definitive example of an anachronism, a standing stone in an urban environment. The green iron railings which imprison the standing stone emphasise it's alienation.
