Log Text: It has been more than ten years since I last visited Billy Marshall's Cave. I wonder how many people have visited it since then. There was a geocache box in it so maybe that would have increased its popularity.

Log Text: It is illogical to put so much effort into such a small hidden cairn. Then again, when did common sense influence the antiquarian seeking a new target. I have an unfortunate attraction to remote sites.

Log Text: Directions: Take the Three Lochs turn in the centre of Glenluce heading N. Stay on this road for c. 2.5 miles to reach a lay-by at NX 21619 60922. Head W into the field opposite for c. 50 yards. Turn left following the rough farm track for c. 200 yards to a gate. Benlaight South Cairn is c. 300 yards W of the gateway.
Benlaight South Cairn has been badly treated over time leaving a pale shadow of how it would have dominated the landscape when it was constructed.

Log Text: Benlaight North Cairn is a probable small cairn in moorland c. 2 miles N of Glenluce. It is almost entirely robbed out. It is easily visited along with Benlaight South Cairn and Ballach-a-Heathry Cairn. Three for the price of one is always good value!

Bencallen Hill submitted by PaulM on 29th Oct 2002. Shiel Bridge/Bencallen chambered tomb
Good navigation is needed to find this cairn as the landscape is pretty featureless (NX33779440). Luckily for us the conifers had been recently cleared. There is parking (just) but the lane is very quiet. I dived up the slope and headed in the vague general direction but struck lucky.
Another strange site as the cairn cover has been robbed for drystone walls which all seemed to have been built to hem in the chamber or perhaps as sheepfolds. All t...

Log Text: Bencallen Cairn lies c. 3.75 miles E from Barr Village in S Ayrshire. It is difficult to get to but the splendid isolation of this site more than compensates. Only one large chamber of the cairn remains built into the N wall of a sheepfold. Presumably the stones from Bencallen Cairn were used in the construction of the sheepfold. The ground round about and inside the sheepfold has been deforested so it is rough and rutted.

Log Text: Beinn Ghott Cairn is a small compact cairn which will not appeal to all antiquarians. However if you are on Tiree for an extended stay there is no good reason not to visit it.

Bawd Stone submitted by vicky on 2nd Sep 2001. The Bawdstone, possible dolmen, near Hen Cloud, The Roaches, Staffordshire GR: SJ009620
This so called ‘dolmen’ was described by antiquarian J.D. Sainter in his book ‘Scientific Rambles Round Macclesfield’ in 1878:
"At a short distance south of Rock Hall, there may be observed on the opposite side of Hen Cloud a block of gritstone, which upon approaching it, is found to be rested or balanced, in the first place, upon a short edge of rock and then upon two upright and pointed pilla...

Log Text: The Bawd Stone is located between The Roaches and Hen Cloud. It may be a natural dolmen enhanced to locate a burial below the massive stone. The setting is certainly spectacular.
There is parking available at SK0061961882 c. 30 yards SE of the start of the path. Follow the path for c. 300 yards uphill to reach a crossroad. Turn R for c. 30 yards until a faint path veers L. Take this path E for c. 50 yards to reach the Bawd Stone.

Log Text: Barsloisnoch cists are only to be found by those looking for them. They lie in marshy pasture land adjacent to Barsloisloch Farm. Barsloisnoch SE cist has an impressive capstone, well worth a small detour while visiting the Kilmartin sites.

Log Text: The survival of Barpa Langais in its almost intact state is due to its location on an isolated island. It is most unusual to have a dedicated car park and path leading to a well preserved chambered cairn. Barpa Langais was a highlight on my Hebridean tour.

Log Text: Barnhouse Stone is surrounded by the Stones of Stenness, the Watch Stone and Maeshowe. This is tough company to compete with. It also implies it could be important to be erected in such an important area. The c. 10 feet tall stone slab stand in splendid isolation in an arable field c. 0.5 mile SE of the Stones of Stenness. It deserves to be visited.

Log Text: I was suffering from Stone-Fatigue after a week in and around Carnac. I opted to drive for 3 hours to Cairn de Barnenez as a relaxing change. The monument was well sign-posted. The entry fee was a reasonable 6 euros. The epic scale of Cairn de Barnenez was intimidating at first. There are 11 parallel dolmens in the cairn running SE-NW, however all but one of the passages are closed to the public. It took me 45 minutes to fully capture the essence of the monument. Cairn de Barnenez is a recommended visit.
