Impressively situated on the hillside close to St. David's Head, Coetan Arthur is the collapsed chamber of what is presumed to be a passage grave which also has a round barrow. The massive capstone measures approximately 5.9 meters by 2.6 meters and is supported on one side by an orthostat approximately 1.5 meters in height.

Log Text: Coetan Arthur Dolmen is in a superb coastal setting on St David's Head. The dolmen is perfectly proportioned. The capstone lies at a pleasing 20 degrees angle from horizontal.
This site is just picture perfect.

Log Text: Take the turn onto Dan-Y-Coed, a residential dead-end street on the S edge of Pontsticill. There is room to park at the end of the cul-de-sac. Follow a grass track N for c. 200 yards to reach a sheepfold. Walk NW for c. 300 yards to a small stone covered cairn, Bryn Glas III. Walk c. 30 yards N to Bryn Glas IV, then c. 85 yards N to Pontsticill Ring Cairn and its small satellite cairn Bryn Glas V. My route is viewable on Pontsticill Cairns.
The Bryn Glas cairns are difficult to locate in open moorland due to their low stature. GPS navigation would be advantageous.

The location is noted on COFLEIN as also being known as Coetan Arthur, their ref being NPRN: 93509, at GR SH22973456.

Log Text: Mynydd Cefn Amlwch is in a pastoral setting protected from livestock by a wooden fence. It is a classic tripod dolmen. I enjoyed the quiet ambience of the site.

Log Text: A narrow road winds up into the Welsh hills from Tal-y-bont (Conwy) on the B5106 signed for Llanbedr-y-cennin. Stay straight on this narrow lane for c. 4 miles to reach a Car Park at SH 7206 7153.
Bwlch y Ddeufaen standing stones are c. 0.5 miles from here along the Roman Road. Both stones are impressive however the distance between them and the dissimilarity of shape suggests to me that they are individual way markers rather than paired stones. There are several cairns nearby which lend weight to this theory.

Stay straight on this narrow lane for c. 3 miles to reach a 90 degree bend at Cae Coch. It is possible to park on the corner otherwise walk back from the nearest passing place. Follow the track E for c. 0.33 miles to see Cae Coch Standing Stone in the field on the L.
This c. 7 foot stone is one of many ancient sites in the area.

Log Text: Hwylfa’r Ceirw Stone Alignment was one of my rare accidental finds. While exploring a ruined footprint of a building on Great Orme my eye was drawn to the S Terminus of the stone row. I followed it downhill towards Marine Drive. The majority of the stones in the row are small however it is a significant presence in its landscape.

Lligwy Burial Chamber submitted by Jimwithnoname on 8th Sep 2011. Amazing dolmen and very unnerving sat underneath the 25 ton capstone. It's perched on very little it seems on the one side. The warden approached us as we sat eating at the site. He asked if we were thinking of stopping the night, which we were, but as he said. that's a no no. We respected him and moved on after our picnic. He was quite pleasant and only doing his job. Many people wild camp as he said, and set fire to crops or drive through hedges!

Bryn Celli Ddu submitted by ericgrindle on 22nd Feb 2015. The Site is clearly signposted and only a short walk from the road. It is considered to be one of the finest passage tombs in Wales, The series of photographs will show the entrance, the main passage and chamber. The access to the main chamber being via a tunnel, the sides of which consist of large vertical slabs topped by substantial stone lintels.

Log Text: There is a balance to be struck in restoring an ancient site. Sites such as Newgrange seem in my eyes to be over-restored losing some of their original character. The restoration of Bryn Celli Ddu on the other hand has been sympathetic allowing it to retain an air of antiquity.

Log Text: On approach there are so many features in Cairnpapple Hill Cairn it is hard to get your head around. After walking round for 30 minutes I managed to get a mental map of the phases of construction. The restoration may seem excessive to some but at least the concrete dome allows safe access to the central cists. It is currently £7.50 to visit during opening hours but I did spend a solitary hour investigating the many facets of the cairn.

Log Text: Galabraes E Standing Stone is on the left side of the narrow road approaching Cairnpapple Hill. I resolved to visit it on the way back. To paraphrase Charles Dickens, Galabraes is "A Tale of Two Stones": the E Standing Stone is a tall erect slab and the W broken stump on the edge of gorse bushes is a sad remnant of a standing stone. In fact, the gorse bushes are encroaching on W Galabraes stone so don't leave it too long. The condition rating of Galabraes E is 4 and Galabraes W is 2, hence the average rating of 3.

Log Text: Ardvreck Chambered Cairn lies c. 250 yards NE of Ardvreck Castle. Therein lies the problem. Thousands of people walk past an anonymous grass mound transfixed by its more attractive companion. I myself was guilty of this on my first visit. It was only on my second visit to Ardvreck that I targeted the cairn using its grid reference.
