One of the Rollright Stones group, this extremely weathered 8' high stone is 300' away from the King's Men stone circle. It may have been connected with a destroyed Neolithic cairn.

Long Stone (IOW) submitted by Avaloniaspirit on 17th Oct 2007. The Long Stone is a place that I have visited on many occasions and I have taken shed loads of photos but this one is probably one of my favs...lol though it does look a bit phallic looking from this angle!
The closest village is Mottistone and unlless you are up to a hike then I wouldn't park by Mottistone Manor. The best place to go is up Strawberry lane(theres a interesting house on the corner which is actually the National Trusts office) Go past the driveway for the house and a little wa...

Log Text: The site is impressive because there are so many buildings where the walls are still intact, or restored. It makes it possible to imagine how the it may have looked when it was occupied. The journey in and the climb up the mountain, by bus, make it clear just how isolated Mach Picchu was when it was built.
Despite having seen many pictures and read many articles a visit to the site still made a huge impression on me.

View of the Ménec alignements as they were in summer 1987, when you could walk amongst them before they were fenced off, and with an awful lot of erosion going on around them.

Log Text: These alignments have many of the larger stones in this complex. It is hard to imagine the level of commitment required to establish this site. My only regret is that we visited in September when direct access to walk among the stones is not available, at this alignment and others.

Ménec cromlech submitted by AlexHunger on 20th Dec 2004. The Cromlec de Menec marks the westernmost extent of the Carnac Allignments. It basically starts on the road that separates it from the allignments, goes through a private garden, through the end of the village and ends in a creperie.

Log Text: The cromlech and the way the village has grown in and around it reminded me very much of Avebury in England. It was fascinating to walk around the village and to discover stones in all sorts of places.

Log Text: Although the seasonal coverage prevented a good view of the mound the panorama was excellent with the hills opening up to the sea. It is very easy to see the value of this site from here.

Log Text: An excellent museum with many artifacts well displayed. I was particularly impressed by the size of the famous Aztec Calendar Stone. Despite only having a couple of hours I saw most of the museum and took many photographs. As I left I had the opportunity to enjoy a display of Native Pole Flyers.

Log Text: The Nazca Lines were viewed by aircraft, flying from Pisco Airport near Paracas. The pilot showed us all the main glyphs, often banking steeply to give us a good view. Photographs do not easily do justice to the impressive designs.

Log Text: This is an impressive fortress site nestled in the Sacred Valley. The terraces and stonework are easily accessible with something of a climb up the stairs. The view and sun temple both make the climb worthwhile. The explanation from our tour guide of the 'knobs' on the large stones is that their shadows helped track such solar events a solstices.

Log Text: In addition to the building being a classic worldwide symbol it is particularly breathtaking in its hill top location. Despite the work being done to restore much of the structure it is still possible to feel the grandeur of the past.

Near Cuzco is at a site called Qenqo, which is a monstrous rock all carved out with tunnels inside, and the whole upper surface is a maze of sculpted surfaces. The stone is andesite. The "thing" in this photo creates a perfect Puma head shadow 2 times a year. Nobody knows its true purpose.

Log Text: The site is a simple circle in good condition with easy access. I found it unusual in that it has 11 equally spaced upright stones with a 12th smaller stone placed midway between two stones. The 12th stone aligns with the centre of the circle, where there is a recumbent stone, and the diagonally opposite stone. The direction of this line appears to be generally North East or towards the mid-summer sunrise.
I did not find any posted information at the site. Current photos will be uploaded.
