Log Text: Cusco consists of buildings and structures that are a mixture of modern, Colonial, and Inca. The most impressive example for me was the Inca "Koricancha" parts of which can still be seen in, around, and under the church and convent of Santo Domingo. The remains of Inca temple are a great opportunity to appreciate some the details of their superb masonry skills. There are many indications of the solar alignments that would be expected in a temple to honour the Sun God. Well worth a visit.

Machu Picchu. submitted by KaiHofmann on 6th May 2013. Machu Picchu.

Log Text: The site is impressive because there are so many buildings where the walls are still intact, or restored. It makes it possible to imagine how the it may have looked when it was occupied. The journey in and the climb up the mountain, by bus, make it clear just how isolated Mach Picchu was when it was built.
Despite having seen many pictures and read many articles a visit to the site still made a huge impression on me.

Ollantaytambo submitted by Jurgen on 5th Dec 2006. Sacred Valley of the Incas, Cusco, Peru. Ollantaytambo is a massive pre-Inca citadel located 50 kilometers from Machu Picchu.

Log Text: This is an impressive fortress site nestled in the Sacred Valley. The terraces and stonework are easily accessible with something of a climb up the stairs. The view and sun temple both make the climb worthwhile. The explanation from our tour guide of the 'knobs' on the large stones is that their shadows helped track such solar events a solstices.
Huaca Pucllana
Date Added: 26th Apr 2016
Site Type: Pyramid / Mastaba
Country: Peru
Visited: Yes on 11th Apr 2016. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 4 Access 5

Huaca Pucllana submitted by mfrincu on 17th May 2015. Ancient Pyramid complex in the middle of the Miraflores neighborhood.

Log Text: The site access is controlled and there is an admission fee. Exploring the site is by guided tour only with a guide, in English or Spanish at least. Although portions are damaged, or remain to be excavated, there are sufficient structures visible to be able to appreciate the pyramid and many of the other buildings. Interpretative material, a small museum, and a scale model help to explain the site and what is known about it.
The tour took a little over an hour and I found it to be very informative. I would recommend it to anyone with time to spare in the Miraflores area of Lima.

Ripon Cathedral submitted by Anne T on 3rd Aug 2015. This is the Anglo Saxon crypt at Ripon Cathedral, which is said to be part of St. Wilfrid's original 7th century church on this site. It has been white-washed since I visited 3 years ago. No sign of the Anglo Saxon cross fragments we were told might be down here, but very interesting never-the-less.

Charles De Gaulle Obelisk submitted by martinjeley on 10th Nov 2014. The view of the reverse side of the Obelisk is in contrast to the smooth sides presented to the street. It reminds of the masonic symbolism of the rough stone yet to shaped.

Log Text: An interesting site in itself it is made more interesting because of its relationship to the Rollright Stones themselves.
A little trivia: The "latin" inscription on the nearby bench reads "ORE STABIT FORTIS ARARE PLACET ORE STAT" but a Google search reveals that it is really "O rest a bit for 'tis a rare place to rest at".

King Stone at the Rollrights submitted by enkidu41 on 30th Apr 2004. SP 297308
One of the Rollright Stones group, this extremely weathered 8' high stone is 300' away from the King's Men stone circle. It may have been connected with a destroyed Neolithic cairn.

Rollright Stones submitted by JimChampion on 17th Feb 2005. February 2005. A worms-eye view looking north into the King's Men circle. Lovely winter morning sunshine on a somewhat eerie site.

Log Text: The stones are stunning because of their somewhat unusual appearance. The circle still presents a good sense of the importance of the site. We visited the day after the Druid celebration of the autumn equinox. A labyrinth had been laid using bird seed and it served very well in identifying the main axis, as shown in the photo that I have uploaded.

Long Stone (IOW) submitted by Avaloniaspirit on 17th Oct 2007. The Long Stone is a place that I have visited on many occasions and I have taken shed loads of photos but this one is probably one of my favs...lol though it does look a bit phallic looking from this angle!
The closest village is Mottistone and unlless you are up to a hike then I wouldn't park by Mottistone Manor. The best place to go is up Strawberry lane(theres a interesting house on the corner which is actually the National Trusts office) Go past the driveway for the house and a little wa...

Kerlescan Alignements submitted by thecaptain on 18th Oct 2004. Kerlescan Alignements, northeast of Carnac, Brittany.
This picture was taken looking east in 1987, when wandering amongst the stones was OK. I think many of them have been fenced off to try and combat erosion these days. I must go back sometime.

Log Text: These alignments show converging lines which distinguishes them from the other main alignments. The ability to experiment and build on this scale is still hard to appreciate today.

View of the Ménec alignements as they were in summer 1987, when you could walk amongst them before they were fenced off, and with an awful lot of erosion going on around them.

Log Text: These alignments have many of the larger stones in this complex. It is hard to imagine the level of commitment required to establish this site. My only regret is that we visited in September when direct access to walk among the stones is not available, at this alignment and others.
