Log Text: The integration of the village into the superb stone circle is in part a distraction and yet a wonder in itself. The site is impressive both on its own and as a part of the many sites in this area of Wiltshire.

The ability to walk through the stones and experience the location gives it some advantages over Stonehenge.

Log Text: The hill is impressive when seen from the road but I did not have the opportunity to determine if it was possible to get closer. The potential linkages of this structure with the sites in the area are not easy to understand. The effort put into the construction makes it clear that it held particular significance for our ancestors.

Carcassonne - La Cité

Carcassonne - La Cité submitted by thecaptain on 19th Feb 2005. La Cité de Carcassonne, seen here from the south. Ancient citadel which goes back as far as time. Although the main remains of this fantastic fairy story city are now mediaeval much of the walls can be seen to date back to Visigoth and Roman times. This is of course, all built upon a citadel which was here long before any of them came here.

Log Text: Carcassonne is an impressive fortress with many interesting areas to visit. The history of the region is reflected in many places, including the Abbey. My time there was limited and I would go back to see more if the opportunity were to arise.

Log Text: The photographs were taken during my visit in April 2013 on a grey day which did not necessarily do justice to some of the exhibits and I was using my iPod which does not do well with high contrast.

Log Text: The scale of the structures leave you in complete wonder at they must have looked like in their day. It was well worth the slow journey out of Mexico City in the heavy traffic.

Log Text: An excellent museum with many artifacts well displayed. I was particularly impressed by the size of the famous Aztec Calendar Stone. Despite only having a couple of hours I saw most of the museum and took many photographs. As I left I had the opportunity to enjoy a display of Native Pole Flyers.
