Log Text: An interesting site in itself it is made more interesting because of its relationship to the Rollright Stones themselves.
A little trivia: The "latin" inscription on the nearby bench reads "ORE STABIT FORTIS ARARE PLACET ORE STAT" but a Google search reveals that it is really "O rest a bit for 'tis a rare place to rest at".

Log Text: Easily recognized by just about anyone I was always impressed to see the structure at close range. As a young boy growing up less than an hour from the site I recall still being able to walk through the remaining stones.
The vast amount of work done over the years, and continuing today, to understand the development and meaning of the site often raises as many questions as it does answers. There are many books to choose from if anyone wishes to enter into the intrigue presented by the discipline of archaeoastronomy.

Log Text: The hill is impressive when seen from the road but I did not have the opportunity to determine if it was possible to get closer. The potential linkages of this structure with the sites in the area are not easy to understand. The effort put into the construction makes it clear that it held particular significance for our ancestors.

Rollright Stones submitted by JimChampion on 17th Feb 2005. February 2005. A worms-eye view looking north into the King's Men circle. Lovely winter morning sunshine on a somewhat eerie site.

Log Text: The stones are stunning because of their somewhat unusual appearance. The circle still presents a good sense of the importance of the site. We visited the day after the Druid celebration of the autumn equinox. A labyrinth had been laid using bird seed and it served very well in identifying the main axis, as shown in the photo that I have uploaded.

Ripon Cathedral submitted by Anne T on 3rd Aug 2015. This is the Anglo Saxon crypt at Ripon Cathedral, which is said to be part of St. Wilfrid's original 7th century church on this site. It has been white-washed since I visited 3 years ago. No sign of the Anglo Saxon cross fragments we were told might be down here, but very interesting never-the-less.

Rhyl Gorsedd Circle
Date Added: 22nd Jun 2016
Site Type: Modern Stone Circle etc

Rhyl Gorsedd Circle submitted by MartinJEley on 22nd Jun 2016. The complete circle.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: The site is a simple circle in good condition with easy access. I found it unusual in that it has 11 equally spaced upright stones with a 12th smaller stone placed midway between two stones. The 12th stone aligns with the centre of the circle, where there is a recumbent stone, and the diagonally opposite stone. The direction of this line appears to be generally North East or towards the mid-summer sunrise.
I did not find any posted information at the site. Current photos will be uploaded.
Qenko

Country: Peru

Qenko submitted by Michelledubois on 11th Oct 2011. Near Cuzco is at a site called Qenqo, which is a monstrous rock all carved out with tunnels inside, and the whole upper surface is a maze of sculpted surfaces. The stone is andesite. The "thing" in this photo creates a perfect Puma head shadow 2 times a year. Nobody knows its true purpose.
