Menhir von Benzingerode
Date Added: 2nd Aug 2019
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Germany (Saxony-Anhalt)
Visited: Yes on 11th Jun 2019

Menhir von Benzingerode submitted by Martin_L on 11th Jun 2019. The impressive senonic quartzite menhir seen from the South in 2019. Clear height almost 4m which is quite rare in central european area. Excavations in 1938 by Pätzold et al. [1] revealed a late neolithic / early bronze age tomb beside the menhir. Total length of the stone is 450cm. The closest possible source of this rock at a distance of 1,5km.

Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Germany (Saxony-Anhalt)
Visited: Yes on 13th Jun 2019

Heimburg Menhir submitted by Martin_L on 13th Jun 2019. Heimburg Menhir in 2019. All in all a quite positive change compared to 2006. Of course it is located just South of the motorway A38 which certainly does not add to the ambiance. Otherwise the scenery has been quite pleasant in June 2019. Especially the view towards the South is splendid.

Pfaffenstein
Date Added: 2nd Aug 2019
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Germany (Saxony-Anhalt)
Visited: Yes on 16th Jun 2019

Pfaffenstein submitted by Martin_L on 16th Jun 2019. Very fine Menhir Feldpredigerstein (also known as 'Pfaffenstein') in June 2019. Seen from the NW. Scenery and views are nice in general, but the road leading along a few meters North of the menhir certainly does not add to the ambiance. By the time of our visit around 2 cars passed per minute so it is not the busiest road, but still it is not a site inviting the visitor to stay. [Medium Format film photograph, June 2019]

Visited: Yes on 18th Jun 2019

Derenburg Menhir submitted by Martin_L on 18th Jun 2019. Derenburg Menhir in 2019. Back in upright position. Close to the motorway, but in general an almost pleasant setting. Except for several intrusive signs which have been unneccessarily planted just beside the menhir. As if someone really tried to spoil the ambiance as best as possible.
