America's Stonehenge
Date Added: 12th Oct 2011
Site Type: Ancient Village or Settlement
Country: United States (New England)
Visited: Would like to visit

America's Stonehenge submitted by thecaptain on 14th Dec 2003. The sacrificial table at Mystery Hill, also known as America's Stonehenge, near Salem, New Hampshire. Is it an ancient site or a fairly modern construction ? They say its over 4000 years old, but who built it ?
When I visited 10 to 15 years ago it was a really horrible wet day, so I didnt get many pictures. And I have to say, that despite their best efforts to assure me that carbon dating of objects prove it to be 4000 years old, the stones just didnt look weathered enough to me.

Visited: Would like to visit

Spittal Quarry submitted by NickiMacRae on 9th Oct 2011. One of the things I was most looking forward to seeing was the little guard cell built with a corbelled roof within the wall structure. I really wanted to take some photo's from inside of the newly enclosed space, I'm kind of into the idea of 'enclosure' (as you'll know if you've followed my work). Sadly it was just a few stones off being capped when we clocked off for the day - this is how it looked as I left site, still very beautiful (and reminded me of a painting of the inside of a souterrai...

Coral Castle submitted by bat400 on 29th Oct 2013. Coral Castle Coral Castle was interesting, but didn't hold as much magic or mystery about it as other folk environments I've seen. Ed Leedskalnin created it in response to rejection from his true love, whom he refers to as "Sweet Sixteen," and who was ten years his junior. I couldn't help feeling that she'd made the right move. Log Text: This place is simply amazing. To think that one made single handedly built these structures by himself is simply mind boggling. Every year I visit family in Florida, we always visit Coral Castle. August of 2010 was my last visit. No matter what your age - everyone from 2 years old up to 100 years old will really enjoy this place
