Xaghra Circle

Xaghra Circle submitted by enkidu41 on 5th May 2004. Also known as Brochtorff's Circle. The actual circle is about 120' in diameter. Only about 85' of the circumference still stands and is obscured by by soil pile up and thick vegetation. The rest of the circle is outlined by a modern wall. The feature shown here is the central excavation in which Herr Brochtorff supposedly found other megaliths including an altar-like structure. The remains are thought to be of a temple smaller than but similar to the nearby Ggantija temple.

This site can only be visited by Appointment. I booked a guided tour which was very interesting. All of the items found during excavations are exhibited in the Ġgantija visitor center.

Ta' Marziena submitted by enkidu41 on 28th Jun 2004. This ruined temple has never been properly explored and most of the surviving megalithic blocks are either built into modern field walls or covered by carob and prickly pear trees (which, believe me, you do not want to mess with!).
This shot is of the most accessible surviving wall which has been incorporated into a modern field wall.
