Lochbuie Kerb Cairn
Date Added: 27th Mar 2016
Site Type: Cairn
Country: Scotland (Isle of Mull)
Visited: Yes

Lochbuie Kerb Cairn submitted by Nick on 2nd Nov 2003. Set in a group of trees around 100m NW of the stone circle, this rather ruinous kerb cairn still retains sufficient structure to make it worth a look. It is about 6.5m across, and has a 'false' entrance to the SE. The stones on the northern and southern arcs are still pretty much in situ.

Long Stone (Minchinhampton) submitted by TimPrevett on 30th Dec 2009. Sunset 26/12/09 - an unplanned visit to a number of sites in the area.
No maps - just a vague 1970s guidebook - took us a couple hours to locate this having gone from Minchinhampton via Hampton Fields to Tetbury to Avening missing the stone at first by a narrow margin.
Having resigned ourselves to a long barrow this stone was spotted with just a few minutes before the sun went below the horizon.
A very impressive 7 feet tall stone, and make sure to see the smaller stone bisecting the wall ...

Mare and Foal submitted by spoors599 on 13th Apr 2002. Mare and Foal standing stones, Northumberland.
Landranger Sheet No:86 Grid ref: NY72546632
Located just off the B6318 and close to Hadrians Wall are two standing stones, the larger stone standing 1.51m high, the other 0.98m high at a distance apart of 4.82m. The 1769 Armstrong map of Northumberland marks 3 stones in situ. It has been suggested that the stones formed part of a ?four ? poster?. Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: England (Devon)
Visited: Yes

Merrivale Menhir submitted by AngieLake on 10th Apr 2015. This shot shows the "smaller pillar" that Butler describes, in relation to the menhir and the cairn 6 pit. He says: "The menhir, 3.1 m high, still stands in its original position, 42 m almost due south from the centre of the stone circle. There is no evidence that the smaller pillar, 2 m long, lying a few meters away ever stood upright, but it was erected in 1895 in the pit alongside, toppling again a few years later. Between these two stones cairn C6 (3.0 x 0.3 m) has a central pit. Three st...
