Boskenna Cross

Boskenna Cross submitted by enkidu41 on 15th Nov 2004. The shot shows the principal face of the cross with its depiction of Christ. The three-part base is out of all proportion to the cross. The look of stability is deceptive given its three damaging brushed with modern traffic!

Falkner's Circle

Falkner's Circle submitted by Thorgrim on 11th Mar 2004. Just one stone remains standing now. Where are the others? They are broken and scattered in the adjacent hedgerows. Don't you just love farmers - custodians of the land! The circle was described by Falkner in 1840 and a plan by W. Long shows that there were 12 stones in a circle of 37m circumference. So the damage has been done since then. The circle is sign-posted from the road alongside the West Kennet Avenue and is just a quarter of a mile along the footpath that follows the field ...

The cross-slab dates from between the 7th-9th century CE and has a cross and two curious figures carved onto it. And an inscription recalls the name Moridic. The slab is also decorated with cord-plait interlacing and key patterning.
