Clifton Stones submitted by nicoladidsbury on 31st Mar 2007. Clifton standing stones.

A circular walk is possible from Clifton, taking the footpath via Clifton Hall, where you can visit a well preserved Peel Tower, which has been resorted but apprears to have kept many of its original timbers. Very impressive! The walk continues over the motorway, and through a number of fields on a very good path. The route swings eastwards, the...

High Ireby Standing Stone submitted by nicoladidsbury on 18th Oct 2008. High Ireby Standing Stone
I spotted this stone close to my parents farm, and am wondering if it could be a standing stone. There are possibly two? more further down the field, and made me wonder if it was a stone row. Photo taken on full zoom.

Cratcliff Rocks submitted by nicoladidsbury on 6th Apr 2004. Cratcliff Rocks Defended Settlement.
This photo was taken from Nine Stones Close. The setting sun lit the rocks with a spectactular red light. The settlement is a jumble of rocks, but man made walls can clearly still be seen. When I visited the site, I didn't realise it was a settlement, it is not marked as such on the OS map. I need to go back! Grid Ref:SK227623

Castle Ring (Derbyshire) submitted by nicoladidsbury on 5th Jul 2005. View up to Castle Ring Hillfort from the Limestone Way path near Youlgreave. Its possible to make out the turf banks, topped with a drystone wall. The hill is very steep sided, giving a very well defended site. The Limestone Way path continues up the side of the hill underneath Castle Ring, although there is no access to the fort as it is on private land.
