Site Type: Early Christian Sculptured Stone
Country: Wales (Anglesey)

St Cadwaladr (Llangadwaladr) submitted by TimPrevett on 23rd Sep 2007. The most important burial inscription on Anglesey. referring to St Cadfan, a King of Gwynedd who died around 625 AD. The style is indicative of wide contacts, as far as the western mediterranean.
The stone is set in the wall in front of you as you enter the building, and reads:
CATAMANUS REX SAPIENTIS MUS OPINATISM US OMNIUM REG UM - King Catamanus wisest most renowned of all kings.
Photographs inside the church for personal use only, by explicit request of the key holder & rector.

Crawberry Hill submitted by rich32 on 22nd Jul 2004. Crawberry Hill stone circle, nr Allendale, Northumberland (NY880563)
A small circle that looks like it was made yesterday. All of the stones except 1 are inset. The recently burnt back heather has revealed an area covered with small inset stones. I saw at least 3 possible circles next to this one, but there again I always do.

Site Type: Ancient Cross
Country: England (Yorkshire (West))
Visited: Yes on 19th Feb 2024. My rating: Condition 3 Access 5

St Matthew (Rastrick) submitted by rldixon on 16th Jul 2010. Anglo Saxon cross base St Matthew's, Rastrick showing carvings ;
taken 9th July 2010
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: The cross base is an impressive “lump”, carved on three sides, but looking very vulnerable to toppling or movement as it is severely undermined , and seems to rest on old bricks wedged beneath (see photos). The nearby stone set in the wall is even more enigmatic. What evidence is there of the supposed Roman road mentioned in the article?

Rotherwas Ribbon submitted by alun on 16th Jul 2007. A view of the stones laid out on top of a cut ditch. The presence of a early Bronze Age settlement and cremation makes it likely to be around 4000 years old.

Caiy Stane submitted by crannog on 22nd Feb 2012. Edinburgh council has to be commended for the care they take in preserving ancient sites/monuments, like this. It is located at the end of a street with lots of homes all around.

Log Text: Well worth a visit, impressive in size, cup marks very clear, ring marks not visible. A Mr Forrest has added his name to the varving. Shame the context of cairns and sightlines ruined by development, but significant nonetheless. I’ll post photos asap.
