Outdoor rectangular bathing pool containing the submerged St Beuno’s Stone which can be seen in the photo nearer to the front of the pool than the steps and hand rail in the rear left corner. The well chamber behind the pool is a fine example of late perpendicular architecture creating an almost square crypt covering the wellhead. Around the well, graceful columns rise to support an elaborate vaulted roof which in turn supports St Winifrede’s Chapel above. Once, steps led from the well up...

New York Cleopatra's Needle submitted by AlexHunger on 27th Apr 2006. The New Yorkers also call this Obelisk Cleopatra's Needle. It was errected at On, otherwise known as Heliopolis a suburb of modern Cairo, around 1600 BCE by Thutmose I. This is the same location the London Obelisk comes from while only one remains in situ. The Romans took it to Alexandria in 12 BCE. The Egyptian government donated it to NYC in 1881 and the move was paid for by the Vanderbilts. It is now in Central Park behind the Metropolitan Museum. It originaly stood in front of the temple of Luxor, where its twin remains. Similar to Cleopatra's needle in London, there are more captured obelisks of this kind in Central Park New York or Rome etc. It received a Gold cap on the Pyramidon tip for the year 2000.

Once considered to be the guardian of the City and the place where all distances from London were measured, the London Stone now sits almost forgotten in a little glass box set into the wall of 111, Cannon Street opposite the Underground Station at TQ326809.
