Outdoor rectangular bathing pool containing the submerged St Beuno’s Stone which can be seen in the photo nearer to the front of the pool than the steps and hand rail in the rear left corner. The well chamber behind the pool is a fine example of late perpendicular architecture creating an almost square crypt covering the wellhead. New York Cleopatra's Needle submitted by AlexHunger on 27th Apr 2006. The New Yorkers also call this Obelisk Cleopatra's Needle.
It was errected at On, otherwise known as Heliopolis a suburb of modern Cairo, around 1600 BCE by Thutmose I. This is the same location the London Obelisk comes from while only one remains in situ.
The Romans took it to Alexandria in 12 BCE.
The Egyptian government donated it to NYC in 1881 and the move was paid for by the Vanderbilts.
It is now in Central Park behind the Metropolitan Museum.

Taken from Egypt and placed in the center of Paris. It originaly stood in front of the temple of Luxor, where its twin remains. Similar to Cleopatra's needle in London, there are more captured obelisks of this kind in Central Park New York or Rome etc. It received a Gold cap on the Pyramidon tip for the year 2000.

Heliopolis Seti I Piazza del Popolo Obelisk submitted by AlexHunger on 12th Apr 2009. Site in Rome: Obelisk from the temple of Heliopolis made under the reign of Seti I . It was brought to Rome by Augustus in 10 BCE and erected on the spina of the Circus Maximus. It is now in the Piazza del Popolo.

Sacred Spring, Bath submitted by Thorgrim on 8th Aug 2004. The hot springs still rise at Bath. Sacred to Sulis long before the coming of the Romans. Tourists stand in awe of the Roman outflow, but that is merely a drain. Here where the hot water bubbles up from the earth is the real mystery.

London Stone submitted by Thorgrim on 1st Apr 2004. Once considered to be the guardian of the City and the place where all distances from London were measured, the London Stone now sits almost forgotten in a little glass box set into the wall of 111, Cannon Street opposite the Underground Station at TQ326809. Very difficult to photograph because of the internal light and glass. It is very low to the pavement and I put my compact digital to the glass and hoped for the best!
