Bryn Cader Faner submitted by pab on 20th Apr 2012. Beautiful place...the access wasn't as difficult as I'd expected, so I think the it is only fair to acknowledge the improvements made to the paths. Difficult balance between improving access and keeping it remote & special.... I was a bit reluctant to add to the the amazing images already posted for this site, but this sky tempted me enough to do so! September 2011

St Baglan's Church (Llanfaglan) submitted by pab on 19th Apr 2012. St Baglan's Church A short walk across the fields from the coastal road, the ancient church of St Baglan's is not normally open - but the Friends of Friendless Churches charity does make sure it opens a couple of times a year and is cared for as well as possible. Even if it is not open, it should be possible to see one of its treasures in the porch, in the form of this fascinating early carved stone.

Druidston Stones

Druidston Stones submitted by pab on 4th Jun 2012. Standing about 6ft high, this magnificent stone is surrounded by numerous small stones - but they do not give the impression of being packing etc. The impression is more one of them giving some protection to the stone - which would be odd if it had been placed their in recent times as a rubbing stone for cattle.

Stonehenge Aotearoa

Stonehenge Aotearoa submitted by pab on 7th Jun 2012. November 2011 This is the 'Avenue' entrance to the main circle, with my 5ft marker (aka Mrs PAB) standing at the entrance for scale. There is plenty of information about the purpose and layout - but basically the various monoliths are markers of the limits of events such as the solstice or equinox. It is definitely worth visiting the website to understand the location more fully.

Beuno's Well (Clynnog Fawr)

Beuno's Well (Clynnog Fawr) submitted by AngieLake on 11th Jul 2006. St Beuno's Well, or Fynnon Beuno, at Clynnog Fawr. This was once very popular with pilgrims and looked very inviting from the road. (Beware when visiting, as this road is lethal - the traffic whizzes past about an inch from your nose; and, fool that I am, I was there at leaving work time! There are no pavements and it's quite narrow, with no verge. I walked along it trying to catch a glimpse of the dolmen, as well as the well!)

Log Text: The Well is no longer alongside the busy A499 because of the new Clynnog by-pass. The Well is now in a cul-de-sac formed by the by-pass - it must have been awful to walk to it before!

There seems to have been significant damage to the structure of the wall at some point during or prior to 2010, and the well was still locked in Sept 2011.

It was found by chance in 1919, hidden in a scree and wrapped in birch bark. The coins / money are a mixture of both Anglo-Saxon (5) and Arabic (47) origin. February 2012.

South Yarrows Broch submitted by pab on 18th Aug 2011. SolarMegalith's photo PID80083 - being of curious temperament, I just had to see what was in the dark patch of SolarMegalith's photo, so I opened it on my PC. I was very surprised to be able to get this amount of additional detail from the image on the Portal: apparently able to see what was under the water! Closer look - especially at the lower lines of stone - showed an excellent reflection instead. I found it interesting though how much more detail could be seen, even in a compress...

Craig Rhosyfelin submitted by PAB on 27th Feb 2011. Runemage commented that a map might be useful to help people understand what the 'new' discovery means, so I popped up there at lunchtime to try and get a picture to show the connections. This is one of our favourite spots for Sunday lunch, so no great hardship! The Carn Meini outcrop is to the left of this shot - which is basically looking along the northern flank of the Preseli Hills towards Carn Ingli and the coast at Newport. It is certainly true that no-one would take any ston...

Steinacleit

Steinacleit submitted by pab on 22nd Sep 2011. Central cairn looking NW to the sea. The stones encircling this cairn define a significant area on this exposed hilltop. The Interpretation Panel at the car park area reports that the area has not been fully investigated or excavated, so its original usage is unclear but it offers the following suggestion: "An Ancient Farm: Are the stones the remains of a burial cairn or a stone circle? Using the limited evidence, Stenacleit is probably best interpreted as a prehistoric settlem...
