Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: Wales (Conwy)
Visited: Yes on 18th Mar 2021

Maen y bardd submitted by PAB on 18th Mar 2021. A wonderful site to come across unaware, as we hadn't planned this walk around ancient locations.
The leading upright does have a worrying crack, so perhaps it will only last another few thousand years..

St Celynin's Well
Date Added: 20th Mar 2021
Site Type: Holy Well or Sacred Spring
Country: Wales (Conwy)
Visited: Yes on 19th Mar 2021

St Celynin's Well submitted by PAB on 19th Mar 2021. KiwiBetsy's posts back in 2006 of sacred wells in Wales were the inspiration for many of our walks and visits, and I'm still so grateful to her for introducing us to so many delightful and special places!
St Celynin's Well was a particular delight - this photo was taken on our most recent visit, even more special this time as we reached it using the old track from the village.
This photo is taken from inside the well enclosure, towards the lovely church.

Visited: Yes on 15th Jan 2021

Unstan submitted by PAB on 15th Jan 2021. As seen from the road....so decided to have a look! It is always nice to come across something unexpectedly, and we hadn't really researched very well before arriving in Orkney (sorry Portal, awful, I know!).
As is obvious from the photos already posted, it was the right decision...

Country: Scotland (Orkney)
Visited: Yes on 11th Jan 2021

Bretta Ness submitted by PAB on 11th Jan 2021. The Archaeological Notes for Bretta Ness on Canmore do not offer a definitive period or purpose for this small feature off the eastern edge of the Loch of Wasbister.
Follow the link in the Comments below to read further....
It was however significant enough to catch my attention when driving down towards the loch, so I took some photos intending to follow it up.

Wasbister
Date Added: 16th Jan 2021
Site Type: Crannog
Country: Scotland (Orkney)
Visited: Yes on 12th Jan 2021

Wasbister submitted by PAB on 12th Jan 2021. The Burrian, island in the Loch of Wasbister.
As can be seen from the many comments on the Portal's site page, there is significant disagreement about the original and subsequent function and use of this island in the Loch of Wasbister.
From my very fleeting visit, I can offer no opinion apart from the fact that it was striking enough for curiosity to lead me to take some photos for subsequent investigation!
Canmore offers lots of possibilities, link in Comments.

Taversoe Tuick submitted by PAB on 12th Jan 2021. Looking SSE over the main cairn towards the island of Wyre, with the ferry in sight.
This photo shows the extent of erosion on this face of the cairn, presumably people find it an irresistible viewpoint!
