St Lythans submitted by Mark_in_Wales on 22nd Jun 2022. Photo Competition 2022 WINNING ENTRY. This light beam was photographed at 21:14 BST on the 20th of June 2022. St Lythans Burial Chamber is a highly accurate tool for determining the Winter Calendar and making this stunning Arrowhead light-beam at Midsummer. The arrowhead shape (known as an oblique arrowhead in academic circles) is extremely precise, with a straight back, curved cutting surface and hooked single tang. The light-beam is formed by only three stones and the angle of the wall it is b...

The 3 stones in the background are probably the remains of the crescentic forecourt of a chambered long barrow similar to Grey Mare & Her Colts. The centre stone is nearly 6'6" high. The stones in the foreground lie to the west and may be the end stones of the forecourt.

Access is now via the main Ridgeway Path to the north. Park in layby, walk past the farm buildings on the left, follow the signage to the main path, across a field boundary, head downhill, then a steep step-over stone stile on the right hand side (south) takes you along to the dolmen.

A nice neat little stone circle on the moors below Belstone Tor on the common to the south of the village of Belstone, Devon. This circle is almost certainly the remains of a round burial cairn, and traces of the burial chamber can be seen within the circle.
This is a view looking north

Log Text: the access through the field next to the 'little chef' which is looong gone and is now a car dealership is currently not possible due to National Power building something, so I had to walk along the road, past the site, then double back through the small bit of woodland. Easy enough, but there is no pavement on the road and it's very busy, so be careful.

Apologies for awful picture. It was a miserable wet and misty day, and the batteries on my camera had died, so this was taken from the fieldgate on my phone.

Log Text: Just a single stone, access is via hopping over a gate into the field. I cycled here as it's not far from where I live, but theres a few wider parts of the road you could probably park in.
