Date Added: 18th Sep 2021
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: England (Wiltshire)
Visited: Yes on 16th Sep 2021. My rating: Condition 1 Ambience 2 Access 4

Coate circle submitted by TimPrevett on 25th Nov 2007. Coate Circle, wedged between Swindon and the M4 Motorway, visited with permission of the landowner 25/11/07. 5 Stones remain in an arc; 1 additional stone is to the SE towards a tree, and a further stone to the S. There is another stone to the W in a field in front of a barn, visible from the main circle.
The five stones of the arc are visible in this picture, as is the outlying stone just to the front left of the tree.

Lanhill submitted by thecaptain on 16th Apr 2004. Lanhill, Chambered Tomb, near Chippenham, Wiltshire, ST877747
At the centre of the southern side is a rock lined chamber, about 2½ m in length by 1½ metres in width, which has obviously been restored, as the roof is now supported on steel bars. The opening to the chamber has a curved, dry stone walled forecourt, and there is a blocking stone across the opening.

Log Text: Lovely little spot park quarter of a mile down the road in the layby and walked through the top of the field. The traffic on the road is fast! Had to hop over a barbed wire fency but it's a lovely spot worth the effort.

Tout Quarry Sculpture Park Stone Circle submitted by TimPrevett on 14th Aug 2017. 12/08/17
This circle (more of a 'cove' of stones, I suggest) at Portland's Tout Quarry Sculpture Park was officially opened on June 21st 2017. It's just on the south side of the arterial route at the top of north end of Portland, parking at The Heights Hotel just across the road, or if that's full, parking around the corner to the north of the hotel near The Olympic Rings monument. Not to be confused with "The Circle of Stones" further into the sculpture park.
