Cherkley Court Barrows submitted by Andy B on 7th Apr 2010. The location of this round barrow, just on the corner of Stane Street with the track down to Cherkley Court is now completely covered in shrub. There may be a slight rounding of the terrain but it's very difficult to tell.

An Iron Age defended settlement stands on the top of a small promontory. It is roughly circular in plan measuring 58m by 55m across. Around the settlement are two ramparts, or banks, of earth and stone and two ditches.

Structure XX - this is the highest building at ChicannĂ¡, its layout is almost quadrangular, composed of two levels and oriented towards the cardinal points. The lower section has eleven rooms and the upper part four. The principal facade is on the south side.
The facade of the upper temple preserves the remains of the typical motif of the Chenes region: a complete, gigantic, zoomorphic mask. In each of the corners there are columns of masks of the "prominent nose" god which guards the mout...
