St Warna's Well
Date Added: 5th Oct 2011
Site Type: Holy Well or Sacred Spring
Country: England (Isles of Scilly)
Visited: Would like to visit
St Warna's Well submitted by Thorgrim on 7th Jul 2003. A Celtic well later Christianised, this is the only holy well in Scilly. Located on the rocky shore above St Warna's Cove on St Agnes at SV 88040778, it has three steps leading down to the stone walled chamber. St Warna landed here in a coracle from Ireland and was the patron saint of shipwrecks. Islanders gave offerings at the well so that the sea would deliver goods from wrecked ships of which there are hundreds around Scilly.

Desborough Castle
Date Added: 15th Oct 2011
Site Type: Hillfort
Country: England (Buckinghamshire)
Visited: Would like to visit

Desborough Castle submitted by TheCaptain on 29th Mar 2004. Desborough Castle, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, SU846934
The fort commands a fantastic position above the valley, with views to High Wycombe in the east, and West Wycombe and its fortified hill along the valley to the west.
This is the view along the valley to the west showing the fine sight of West Wycombe Hill and its encampment.
Although it is thought that the major remains of Desborough castle date from medieval years, there is no doubt that this place has been fortified and used...

Saint Fort Dolmen submitted by Nick- on 24th Sep 2005. Strange dolmen, here's me 1m93 (6'4) for scale. I have a feeling that the capstone has been 'replaced'. I might be completely wrong of course. Easy access, Dolmen is signposted in the village of St.Fort.

Nordsteimke Dolmengrab submitted by AlexHunger on 22nd Aug 2005. Nordsteimke Dolmengrab Front view.
Smallish 1.5 Meters by 1.9 Meters menhir with with unusually rounded cap stone, surounded by 6 boulder sized uprights and surounded by large vestigial tumulus. The Dolmen was discovered in 1972 and restored in 1975. The plaque says the dolmen dates to 2000 BCE, though this seems a little late for this type of monument. To the side of the parking lot in front of the Sports complex. Close to Wolfsburg, home of the VW Beetle.
