Sacsayhuaman submitted by SolarMegalith on 15th Dec 2009. According to the tradition this pre-Colombian fortress located over Cuzco on altitude of 3701 meters over sea level was build by Inca Pachacutec.
During the siege of this fortress Juan Pizarro, one of the four Pizarro brothers, was killed (photo taken on July 2003).

Sacred Spring, Bath submitted by Thorgrim on 8th Aug 2004. The hot springs still rise at Bath. Sacred to Sulis long before the coming of the Romans. Tourists stand in awe of the Roman outflow, but that is merely a drain. Here where the hot water bubbles up from the earth is the real mystery.

The monument itself was discovered by a group of shephards who were looking for water and it was excavated several times. The excavations brought artefacts from periods since nuragic one to Roman.
