Log Text: To the southwest of the Chat Noir roundabout is the hamlet of Kerangoff, where there can be found a dolmen and a menhir. The menhir proved impossible for me to find, hidden somewhere in the forest behind the houses amongst the ferns and gorse, despite a longish walk around all the area.

Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Bretagne:Morbihan (56))
Visited: Couldn't find on 11th Jun 2005

Dolmen de Kerourang 2 submitted by TheCaptain on 7th Nov 2007. I couldn’t find this dolmen marked on my map on my way to Luffang, but stopped for another look on the way back. It was very difficult to find, but it is still there to be seen, well hidden under very thick undergrowth.
I later found out that there are in fact two dolmens a couloir to be found here, within 20 metres of each other.
It's a great shame they are so overgrown and neglected.

Log Text: To the west of Crac'h, down beside the Riviere de Crac'h can be found the remains of another monument which is another important angled passage graves, rather like Luffang, but still with some of its capstones. Besides this are the remains of several other monuments.

Site Type: Cairn
Country: France (Bretagne:Morbihan (56))
Visited: Couldn't find on 9th Jun 2005
Log Text: I had a long walk around the coastal path here, after parking the campervan for the night, but I could not find any sign at all of this. It is probably in a garden or underneath lots of thick gorse and undergrowth.
Dolmen de Méarzenne

Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Bretagne:Morbihan (56))
Visited: Couldn't find on 9th Jun 2005
Log Text: I had a long walk around the coastal path here, after parking the campervan for the night, but I could not find a way to access the wood within which this dolmen lives, as there are lots of big holiday homes and houses with big fenced gardens surrounding it all.

Soriniere dolmen submitted by TheCaptain on 9th Jun 2011. The dolmen is on the left side of the lane under a thick hedge across a field of barley.
I believe its somewhere under the big tree in this picture.

Log Text: Not far from Bergnon are two dolmens marked down a little lane. I walked down the lane but couldn’t really find anything, although I was assured by a passing chap on a bike, that it is possible to access both dolmens. But the barriers, crops and hedges here made it all too much effort for probably little gain, so I didn't try too hard. The first dolmen to be accessed is on the left side of the lane under a thick hedge across a field of barley, which I wasn't going to walk through, and there was no way around.

Log Text: I thought there was another dolmen to be found here and there is. Its just that I thought it was between the first dolmen and the windmill whereas it’s a bit further on down the road I was mixing the two up with their positions on the map. Damnabbit.
La Grée Dolmen
Trip No.203 Entry No.304 Date Added: 26th Apr 2020

Log Text: At the village of Avrillac, near St-André-des-Eaux, is marked a dolmen and menhir on my maps. I parked my van and had a good look all around, including a 3 kilometre walk around various lanes, but I saw nothing, and there was nobody to ask. Whatever megalithic remains there might be here are either in somebodies garden, or hidden away out of sight in the large wooded area. Having just crossed the Loire, I am now in Brittany, and I thought that finding these stones would get easier from now on, especially after the multitudes of signposted menjhirs I had found this afternoon.

Log Text: I found a signpost pointing down a track to this menhir, but could only park the campervan by blocking the lane. Following the track, it divided into three, and there was no indication which way to go to the menhir. I had a quick look along two of the possible directions, but I found no stone before I decided I had better move on. I have since found that the stone may be quite some distance walk along one of the tracks, but which one I still do not know.
La Pointe de l'Herbaudière dolmen
Trip No.203 Entry No.291 Date Added: 24th Apr 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Pays de la Loire:Vendée (85))
Visited: Couldn't find on 7th Jun 2005
Log Text: I camped for the night at the large campsite which now occupies most of the northern point of the Ile Noirmoutiers, but could find no signs of any dolmen. The chap running the campsite said he had no knowledge of any dolmen there. There are however, lots of concrete bunkers, blockhouses and gun emplacements, no doubt built by the Germans in World War 2 as part of the Atlantic defenses. These have no doubt been built on and destroyed any dolmen which might once have been here.
There was a fantastic sunset over the sea and smaller offshore islands from here, with many lighthouses flashing away at various points all around. The swallows flying around here are amazing, into and out of the bunkers, swooping low over the grasslands and in and out of the little cliff faces. Wish I could fly like them. Then the bats came out to play. What a lovely place.

La Meinge du Diable submitted by ocdolmen on 28th Aug 2009. Menhir of Meinge-du-Diable. Extrait of Pierres-Garatelles (covered rocky), the menhir of Meinge of the Devil is the only preserved megalith raised on Vairé's territory. If one believes the legend of it, this menhir was of use formerly of purpose to Satan and to an angel who played the meinge (sort of game of palet). The angel was so skillful as his palet (a big flat stone) lands right by the menhir. It was not there the same for Satan who sent the cliff to the middle road of the target. In fury...

Log Text: I found a signpost to this one, but despite walking along every track and footpath in the vicinity, I found no semblance of any menhir. I wish that when there are signposts from the road, they are followed up later. I must have walked many miles in the baking hot sun here. At least it should be doing me good.

Log Text: They sell postcards of this menhir, and it looks massive. I found Puy Durand, and had a good look all around, but could not find any signs of the menhir. There are lots of private and fenced off areas here, so the menhir is probably inside one of these.

Log Text: There are several sets of alignements to be found in the grounds of the Chateau, of which you have to pay for entry to be able to get in and see them. I didn’t have tome to do a tour of the Chateau, so was not able to visit these stones, of which at least three rows exist.

Soubise dolmen 1 submitted by Rubis on 24th Jul 2010. Postcard maybe taken between the two World Wars.
The domens are three. The two well preserved were moved into the military base. The third one is ruined. Only some few stones remain. It is always there where they were all together.

Log Text: These two dolmens are within the confines of an airfield, which has a big military base on the northern side of the runway, and a little flying club at the south. I could not get to very near to where the dolmens are marked on my map, so didn’t try very hard to get close enough for a photo.

Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen

Visited: Couldn't find on 4th Jun 2005
Log Text: I had a good look around for this one, down into the woods from at least two tracks, and got told some directions on how to find it, but it is well hidden in thick woodland somewhere, and I thought there are better things to do with my time than wander round in the forest for hours on end.
