Furzehill Common stone row
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Stone Row / Alignment
Country: England (Devon)
Visited: Yes on 19th May 2010
Furzehill Common stone row submitted by TheCaptain on 19th May 2010. Here I found four little stumps of stone in a row, in a boggy hollow on top of the ridge. They are spaced 2.5, 5, 2.5 metres apart, suggesting a missing stone in between those I could find.

Hoaroak 1
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Multiple Stone Rows / Avenue
Country: England (Devon)
Visited: Yes on 30th May 2010
Hoaroak 1 submitted by TheCaptain on 30th May 2010. This is a nice little setting of stones, mostly on open grassland, making it easy to see and find!
Most of the stones are less than 18 inches long, and fallen, or else just stubs of stone still fast in the ground. Only one stone really stands proudly near the centre of the setting.

Furzehill Common 5
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Multiple Stone Rows / Avenue
Country: England (Devon)
Visited: Yes on 6th Jul 2010
Furzehill Common 5 submitted by TheCaptain on 6th Jul 2010. View southeast over where this excellent stone setting is to be found, off of the steep eastern slopes of Furzehill Common ridge, overlooking the splendid Hoaroak Water valley, with fantastic views to Cheriton Ridge and beyond.
I almost didn’t come and look for this one as time was getting on, the hillside was in shadow, and when I got near, I saw that the hillside was covered in ferns. I am glad to say that I did go for a quick look, and eventually found the best stone setting I had see...

Sittaford Stone Circle
Date Added: 12th Jun 2014
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: England (Devon)
Visited: Yes on 11th Jun 2014. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 5 Access 2

Sittaford Stone Circle submitted by theCaptain on 12th Jun 2014. With the weather turned nice, I took a day off work to walk out to the newly found Sittaford Tor stone circle.
This is a plot from my GPS showing not only the track of my walking around of the circle, but I also created a waypoint for each stone, which are plotted as the little flags.

Log Text: With the weather turned nice, I took a day off work to walk out to the newly found Sittaford Tor stone circle, starting out from Fernworthy Reservoir. Having planned the trip in advance, so knowing where to look, the circle was very easy to find, although very wet and boggy. All of the stones have been dug around so they are no longer buried in the mire. Excellent.

Royal Hill Cairns (SX621724) submitted by thecaptain on 2nd Aug 2006. Royal Hill Cairn 5
Cairn 5 is easily found to the north of cairn 4, and about 100 metres distant from it.
This is a cute little thing with a complete stone ring around a central cist, but there is little remaining in the way of a cairn.

Holne Ridge NE
Date Added: 29th Oct 2019
Site Type: Multiple Stone Rows / Avenue
Country: England (Devon)
Visited: Yes on 5th Oct 2010
Holne Ridge NE submitted by TheCaptain on 5th Oct 2010. I didn’t think I was going to be able to find this as the area it’s in is all covered by fern and bracken, but it was quite obvious once I got near. The cairn is well formed, about 7 metres in diameter about a metre tall with the expected hollow in the top.

Holne Moor

Country: England (Devon)
Visited: Yes on 21st Nov 2010
Holne Moor submitted by TheCaptain on 21st Nov 2010. At the southeastern end, in a lowpoint before the ground rises again, there seems to be a single, fairly large triangular shaped stone placed across the central or northern row, which may once have been a blocking stone marking the proper end of the monument.

Siward's Cross submitted by TheCaptain on 21st Nov 2010. The northern side and western face of this nice old cross, believed to date back to late Saxon, early medieval times.
On the western face are the words “Boc Lond” which presumably relate to Buckland, or Book Land, connected to the monks of Buckland Abbey.

Cheriton Ridge stone row
Date Added: 29th Oct 2019
Site Type: Stone Row / Alignment
Country: England (Devon)
Visited: Yes on 20th Feb 2011
Cheriton Ridge stone row submitted by TheCaptain on 20th Feb 2011. I found the tops of about 5 or 6 stones just poking their tops above the turf, aligned in a row oriented just east of north along the ridge. As with most of the Exmoor stone rows, the stones are tiny and very difficult to find, with most of them probably buried under the turf and heather.
