Menhir de la Boutinardière

Menhir de la Boutinardière submitted by TheCaptain on 12th Oct 2018. From Michel Baconnais.

Bourtie Pictish Stone

Bourtie Pictish Stone submitted by TheCaptain on 12th Oct 2018. The chapel is easy to find and there is room to park and just a short walk from there through a wooded area. High up on the south side of the Bourtie chapel, near the eastern end, is this pictish stone built into its wall. Symbols are hard to see, but parts of the carvings can be made out.

The Langstane

The Langstane submitted by TheCaptain on 12th Oct 2018. The Long Stone thought to have once been part of a stone circle, now presented in an alcove behind Burger King just off the main Aberdeen thoroughfare of Union Street, at the junction of Dee Street and Langstone Place. The poor thing seems neglected amongst the bins and street signs, but at least it is still here.

Bindon Hill Barrows submitted by TheCaptain on 15th Oct 2018. Near the eastern end of the Bndon Hill ridge, just away from the actual summit, are the ruined remains of a couple of barrows. What a spectacular place, Bit windy and chilly up here today, but got away from all the crowds, and the views are spectacular, over the tank ranges to Poole Harbour to the north, Lulworth Cove and the beautiful Purbeck coastline to the south.

There are a couple of barrows on top of Hambury Tout, near the busy coast path on top of the steep hill between Lulworth Cove and Durdle Dor. Absolutely beautiful here, but can get very crowded, and was on a sunny Good Friday.
