Caer Bach

Caer Bach submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Aug 2004. A view down on to Caer Bach, showing its prominent place above the Conwy Valley. This is taken ascending Tal y Fan mountain. There is a conspicuously white stone just left of centre; this stone is very large, and of different character than the other stones. In the valley below within the picture (but not visible) is the Roman port and fort of Canovium - an essential link in their North Wales strongholds.

Maen Ffordd Rufeinig

Maen Ffordd Rufeinig submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Aug 2004. A possible standing stone south of the road at SH694723, not far from the Roman Road, hence its name. There are many boulders around the area, but this longer stone has been erected, and due to erosion on the far side, subsided. A search of both CARN and Coflein databases reveals nothing further.

Graig Lwyd Cairns

Graig Lwyd Cairns submitted by TimPrevett on 6th Sep 2004. The volcanic looking cairn, looking south west. This cairn does not look as big as it actually is! It is a matter of minutes walk on from Druids Circle, and certainly worth investigating. Grid Ref SH 71662 74693.

Upton Magna

Upton Magna submitted by TimPrevett on 7th Sep 2004. The site of the long lost timber circle between Upton Magna and Uffington (Shrops), not far from Haughmond Abbey. Nothing there to see now - and seeing the 'empty' field is difficult enough; there is a fairly deep ditch between road and hedge, which when I visited was full of summer growth of brambles and nettles. The siting is placed clearly within view of the near omnipresent (for Shropshire) Wrekin, Caer Caradoc (Church Stretton), Long Mynd, Wenlock Edge. It is a gentle sloping fiel...

Conwy Castle can be made out, with train and road bridges across the estuary from Llandudno.

The white dots on the lower slope are sheep, helping give a sense of the scale of the place. The road to Ruthin (from Mold) exits the picture lower right hand corner.

Tyddyn Bleiddyn submitted by TimPrevett on 4th Oct 2004. Notice the contrast of the top stones to most of the wall of the property adjoining the location of the chambered cairn. The grooves seen here are inches deep, and seem very likely to have been taken from the cairn at some point.

Maen Pebyll

Site Type: Long Barrow Country: Wales (Conwy)
Visited: Yes on 4th Oct 2004

Maen Pebyll

Maen Pebyll submitted by TimPrevett on 4th Oct 2004. The collapsed remains of Maen Pebyll - possibly a long barrow, but these stones do resemble a collapsed dolmen; compare to Presaddfed on Anglesey. The weather was vile on this visit, and for 5:50pm at the start of October, the light quality was dire. The driving rain was beginning to affect the camera, so using flash needed - thus giving the white blobs and streaks seen on the picture.

Red Farm

Red Farm submitted by TimPrevett on 6th Oct 2004. There are a couple features of interest in the field of the Red Farm circle that give something to consider as part of the bigger picture. Further down the field, to the right hand side, there is a large mound of stones. It is unclear as to what exactly this is - field clearance? There is a good circular bank of stones beneath the surface, so I'm not entirely convinced it is just field clearance. In this picture there are a few stones of the surviving Red Farm circle to the rear. Perhaps s...
