Robin Hood's Chair

Robin Hood's Chair submitted by TimPrevett on 28th Oct 2004. Most definetly nothing left here, at least obviously! In places, dense tree growth, plenty of bracken, certainly some mounds - but impossible to tell. A precipitous drop into a quarry to the south east lends credence that the mounds that are there are due to quarry spoil, and nothing ancient. This is one of seven locations for possible Shropshire stone circles, besides the two known circles. See main entry for more details.

The Whetstones

The Whetstones submitted by TimPrevett on 26th Dec 2004. The Whetstones taken from the northern summit of Corndon, adjacent the trig point and atop one of its numerous cairns. The Whetstones are central in the picture, in the greener area; Miss Chitty has described the Whetstones as a circle once as important as the nearby Mitchell's Fold. The Whetstones can be viewed from the field just to the north, accessed over a stile from the road (top), which is the boundary with Shropshire. Numerous stones are in the adjoining field boundary; on...

Stapeley Hill Cairn submitted by TimPrevett on 30th Dec 2004. A cairn on Stapeley Hill; see main entry for full details - click on blue text link to the left of the picture. A composite shot looking towards Corndon Hill, and Mitchell's Fold (out of view). It was snowing hard at this point on Midwinter Solstice Eve, and even I was questioning my sanity about being in this exposed, beautiful and dramatic landscape. A biting wind meant I did not stay here for any longer than necessary to get a shot, but on subsequent trips, it will be worth spending tim...

Llanfechell SH364917 & 370916 Visited Monday 14th June 1999 Site 1 - Access: Turning left onto the road towards the A5025, just south of Cemaes, having come through Llanfechell village. We parked up on this (initially!) broad residential lane, then down a marked footpath on the right. If you are carrying a child on your back, watch out for low branches - as our daughter got a knock on the head which greatly upset her. Over a stile, down a very pot-holey field, through a gate (this bit was li...
