Reask submitted by Sunny100 on 31st Aug 2010. The Reaske Stone near Ballyferriter is a cross-inscribed pillar-stone with long spirals carved upon it and the letters DNE meaning 'Domine' - O Lord. At the top there is a Maltese-style cross. This slab may date back to the 4th century CE - the carvings and inscription added between the 5th-7th century CE. Reask was the site of an important early Christian monastery. The site has been excavated and some bee-hive huts found along with an oratory.
