Boskednan Menhir 1
Date Added: 30th Apr 2017
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 1st Jan 2027. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 3

Boskednan Menhir 1 submitted by theCaptain on 14th Oct 2014. From my dim memories, I thought that the menhir was somewhere between the stone circle and the cairns along the path towards Men-an-Tol.
On the way back I notice indeed there is a stump and perhaps a fallen stone right on the pathway where I was expecting it, is it remains of a pair?
Pipers perhaps?

Boskednan A submitted by AngieLake on 15th Oct 2004. This view of the 'destroyed barrow'/cairn near Carn Galva, shows its alignment with Ding Dong mine on the horizon. Boskednan circle is on slightly lower ground not far from here, and on an alignment between the 'barrow'/cairn and the
mine building. The flat sides of the pointed stones face north/south. (This pic was taken at 4pm in March 2004).
The stones sit on a higher ridge at 227m.

Only 2 roofing lintels remain of this fogou associated with Chysauster Courtyard House village. The English Heritage response to the cost of restoration is sadly predictable.

Date Added: 30th Apr 2017
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 1st Jan 2027. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 4
The Hurlers submitted by dodomad on 22nd Nov 2016. Geological project co-ordinator Calum Beeson from Reading the Hurlers: "we've had volunteers carrying out geological surveys on the newly excavated stones and have found that one of the larger stones did not come from the immediate area and does not appear to have travelled there through natural processes. This suggests that it was carried to its current location by human activities". Further studies will continue to shed more light on this ancient site.

Carn Euny Fogou submitted by AngieLake on 2nd Jan 2005. This shot shows the huge but low (4.5ft - 1.4m) SE-facing doorway of the Carn Euny 'Beehive Hut' underground chamber, with its own short passage leading into the fogou passage which runs SW/NE, (but snaking here with a flatter, more W/E run), just outside the doorway. It is possible that the sun was meant to shine down t...
