Log Text: Nice village in the borough of Solihull, near Balsall Common.
In some old documents we found the names: Beorcoles well or Beorcol’s spring and Berchewelle, the name could originate from the anglosaxon word: "berc" which in modern English is a "birch".
The English place names society suggested that the name Berkswell means the Well of Bercul. A Bercul is noted in a 748AD document drawn up by Mercian King Ethalbald which granted the church indemnity from any services or taxation.
It is said that the area was Christianized by travelling monks from the city of Lichfield. A local leader, Bercul, is said to have been baptised in the well in the 8th Century.

War Stone submitted by baz on 21st Mar 2004. The War Stone sits on its plinth in Warstone Lane, overlooking the people who pass by. Birmingham has no natural rock, so this stone, which was deposited nearby by a glacier during the last ice age, has done well to remain here since the Mesolithic.

Cournols allée couverte submitted by thecaptain on 6th Sep 2006. Said to be an allée couverte, its not much like any other allée couvertes I have seen!
It looks more to me like a sort of double dolmen, with two chambers beside one another. The entrance would have been from the east, and central to the two chambers.

Dolmen de Loubaresse submitted by alchemille on 14th Mar 2016. Dolmen de Loubaresse. Le Broc. Issoire. Puy-de-Dôme
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: The Dolmen de Loubaresse is found in the road between Le Broc and Issoire in the department of Puy de Dôme. It is a medium size dolmen with a big capstone. The stones are dark, probably volcanic.
The dolmen is situated 5 minutes away from the national road, and walking through a narrow path through a wood. The dolmen is on the hillside. I could only take pictures from two sides as there is a barbed wire around the field where the dolmen is sitting. It is clear the site is a private property. However there is sign in the national road pointing to the megalithic site.
