Bodfan Standing Stone

Bodfan Standing Stone submitted by nicoladidsbury on 24th Apr 2006. The stone is listed on the OS maps. The nearest farm is called Bodfan, so it seemed like a sensible name, although it may have a proper name. The hills in the distance are to the south, from left to right - Bwlch Mwar, Gryn Goch, Gryn Ddu, and the three peaks of Yr Eifl, the first one if which is the marvellous hillfort of Tre'r Ceiri.

Maen Llwyd (Gwynedd)

Maen Llwyd (Gwynedd) submitted by nicoladidsbury on 2nd Sep 2006. This standing stone is in the middle of a field, just off the A499. It is 10 foot high and 4 foot wide (on its widest edge and covered in lichens. There are also some quartz seams running diagonally through the stone, and a series on indentations along a fault line (?) The main road is close by, and the traffic is heavy, but if you can let that go the ambience is magnificent, helped in no small measure by the crows in the rookery

Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant (Standing Stone)

Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant (Standing Stone) submitted by TimPrevett on 4th Jan 2006. The large re-used Bronze Age standing stone next to the road in the village. Once it was one of several stones here; now it's the only standing stone in the village. If the archaeological database is interpreted correctly, the schoolhouse behind had a mound where the stone was formerly situated - before the school house was constructed. Parking around the bend as seen, ideal for visiting the village.

Kinnerton

Kinnerton submitted by TimPrevett on 10th Sep 2005. The stone in its place in the field; noticed the curved top to the stone, and then follow up to the horizon, and notice the curved hillock above it. Coincidence? Other stones in other places appear to mimmick hill shapes behind them... perhaps this lends more credence to it being a standing stone rather than a scratching post. Perhaps.

Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir) Country: Wales (Powys)

The Hindwell Stone

The Hindwell Stone submitted by TimPrevett on 22nd Sep 2008. Possible standing stone in a field in the Walton Basin. Given the context of the area, and that it's a matter of metres outside of the northern line of the Hindwell Pallisaded Enclosure, it seems a credible assumption to think it of significance and a part of the amazing ancient landscape now largely lost. Look to the NW for The Whimble hill and to the E for Burfa Bank which are of similar shape to the stone in their outline.
