Log Text: The new site is now open and receiving millions of visitors. The reconstructed cave is amazing, and the interpretation site full of information viewed using modern technology. Our visit was at 4pm and we wished it had been in the morning, with a break to recover from information overload! Apparently we can now log into the interpretation site when we get home, then catch up on what we missed.

Trip No.24 Entry No.2 Date Added: 2nd Sep 2022
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 2nd Sep 2022. My rating: Condition 5 Ambience 4 Access 5

Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant (Standing Stone) submitted by TimPrevett on 4th Jan 2006. The large re-used Bronze Age standing stone next to the road in the village. Once it was one of several stones here; now it's the only standing stone in the village.
If the archaeological database is interpreted correctly, the schoolhouse behind had a mound where the stone was formerly situated - before the school house was constructed.
Parking around the bend as seen, ideal for visiting the village.

Site Type: Standing Stones
Country: England (Gloucestershire)
Visited: Yes on 8th May 2024. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 4 Access 5
Long Stone (Minchinhampton) submitted by TimPrevett on 30th Dec 2009. Sunset 26/12/09 - an unplanned visit to a number of sites in the area.
No maps - just a vague 1970s guidebook - took us a couple hours to locate this having gone from Minchinhampton via Hampton Fields to Tetbury to Avening missing the stone at first by a narrow margin.
Having resigned ourselves to a long barrow this stone was spotted with just a few minutes before the sun went below the horizon.
A very impressive 7 feet tall stone, and make sure to see the smaller stone bisecting the wall ...
