Log Text: Opposite County Gate car park there is a bridlepath. Follow this for 50 yards or so and you will see a grass path in front of you heading up to the top of the hill. The path goes off to the right from the bridlepath just before a signpost. Follow it almost to the top, where you will find the stones.

Heading east on the A39 Lynmouth to Porlock road, you will see a pub (Culbone Inn?) to your right; imminently, there is a left hand turn onto a minor road, as the main road veers right. Take this left. Soon, to your left is a parking area, with a little sign and information board for the Culbone Stone:

Porlock Circle submitted by thecaptain on 10th Nov 2006. View roughly northwest across the circle, with the large prone stone in the foreground and the next largest stone on the western side in the distance.
The diameter is about 25 metres and I counted 16 stones, but many of these are just loose stones on the surface.

The inscription reads “CARAACI NEPUS’, kinsman of Caratacus. The stone
originally lay close to a track running out of the Exe valley. A shelter was
built for it in l906. Caratacus was the British leader of the rebellion
against the Romans in 47-51 AD. The stone was first documented in 1219 as a
Forest boundary and called the "Langeston".

Log Text: The walk from the road up a dirt track passes through a tunnel used asa are. The farm is guarded by noisy dogs, but they mostly left us alone. The menhirs have fallen and are mostly broken, but one or two are still impressive.
