Maen Llwyd (Gwynedd)
Trip No.24 Entry No.9 Date Added: 4th Sep 2022
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Gwynedd)
Visited: Yes on 4th Sep 2022. My rating: Condition 5 Ambience 5 Access 4

Maen Llwyd (Gwynedd) submitted by nicoladidsbury on 2nd Sep 2006. This standing stone is in the middle of a field, just off the A499.
It is 10 foot high and 4 foot wide (on its widest edge and covered in lichens. There are also some quartz seams running diagonally through the stone, and a series on indentations along a fault line (?)
The main road is close by, and the traffic is heavy, but if you can let that go the ambience is magnificent, helped in no small measure by the crows in the rookery

Bodfan Standing Stone
Trip No.24 Entry No.10 Date Added: 4th Sep 2022
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Gwynedd)
Visited: Yes on 4th Sep 2022. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 4 Access 4

Bodfan Standing Stone submitted by nicoladidsbury on 24th Apr 2006. The stone is listed on the OS maps. The nearest farm is called Bodfan, so it seemed like a sensible name, although it may have a proper name.
The hills in the distance are to the south, from left to right - Bwlch Mwar, Gryn Goch, Gryn Ddu, and the three peaks of Yr Eifl, the first one if which is the marvellous hillfort of Tre'r Ceiri.

I find something magical about the process of creating a startrail picture. Sitting under the stars for three or four hours with no lights so my eyes have adjusted to the dark so well that I don't need any additional light.
