The Longstone (Piles Hill)

The Longstone (Piles Hill) submitted by thecaptain on 7th Aug 2004. This is a view looking to the south, along the full 2km length of the Butterdon Hill stone row. Butterdon Hill with its two large cairns, where the row starts, is on the horizon. Butterdon Hill Barrow, where the row reaches the top of the ridge and changes direction can also just be made out, midway between the top of the longstone and the left hand cairn.

Hobajons Cross submitted by thecaptain on 6th Aug 2004. Hobajons Cross. This relatively large stone is part of the Butterdon Hill row, and has a simple cross carved into it on the western face. It appears to be a part of the original alignment, adapted for more recent use as a marker for ancient tracks crossing the moor.
