Aveline's Hole submitted by caradoc68 on 26th May 2014. Aveline's Hole is a cave at Burrington Combe in the limestone of the Mendip Hills, in Somerset, England. The earliest scientifically dated cemetery in Britain was found at Aveline's Hole. The human bone fragments it contained, from about 21 different individuals, are thought to be between roughly 10,200 and 10,400 years old. The well’s sign says “With a tablet stone dated 1700 this well once had a reputation for healing weak and troubled eyes and supplied water for the local inhabitants. Hart Tor North Stone Circle, Dartmoor, Devon SX577717 The cairn at the top of the northern rows is about 9m in diameter, and is surrounded by a lovely ring of 15 stone slabs. It is possible that there is another ring of stones still present within the cairn. This is the view to the west, looking down the double row.

St. Pedyr's Well submitted by cazzyjane on 4th Sep 2013. St Pedyr's Well, Treloy. There was formerly a chapel close by and the well was resorted to by the sick during the 17th century. After being left to ruin, it was restored in 1953 by the Old Cornwall Society. It is now the most wonderfully peaceful and atmospheric spot.
