Long Stone (Minchinhampton)
Date Added: 31st Dec 2018
Site Type: Standing Stones
Country: England (Gloucestershire)
Visited: Yes
Long Stone (Minchinhampton) submitted by TimPrevett on 30th Dec 2009. Sunset 26/12/09 - an unplanned visit to a number of sites in the area.
No maps - just a vague 1970s guidebook - took us a couple hours to locate this having gone from Minchinhampton via Hampton Fields to Tetbury to Avening missing the stone at first by a narrow margin.
Having resigned ourselves to a long barrow this stone was spotted with just a few minutes before the sun went below the horizon.
A very impressive 7 feet tall stone, and make sure to see the smaller stone bisecting the wall ...

Site Type: Broch or Nuraghe
Country: Scotland (Isle of Lewis)

Dun Carloway submitted by swatson on 28th Aug 2004. This impressive Broch is near Carloway in the west of the Island of Lewis. Sadly time did not permit detailed exploration but that's something to look forward to at a later date. There is enough of this tower standing to indicate the method and the superb workmanship involved in it's construction.

Seven Wells submitted by KiwiBetsy on 6th Dec 2004. Seven Wells is found in the delightful village of Bisley, built into the hillside below All Saint’s Church and graveyard.
A semicircle of five gothic arched recesses account for five wells with the water arising in the hillside being channelled into a shallow stone trough and then down into a subterranean gravel bottomed pool.
