Padstow Cross submitted by Thorgrim on 4th Nov 2004. Like so many ancient crosses, this one has been re-shafted. Cast down after the Reformation, the crosses were broken, tossed into hedges or built into walls. The shafts made excellent gateposts or door lintels.

An Iron Age fogou situated on a working farm (a great place to stay either in the 17th century converted manor house holiday cottage or the B&B).

Getting to this site is a welcome voyage, arriving at the gate (higher than a normal one) I read a friendly sign- warning me of a bull... So the landowner obviously doesn't want people visiting this site. Climbing over the gate I am affronted with another welcoming feature- electric fence. Slipping under the offending wire, and edging around the field keeping an eye out for the bull of terror, I approach the mound if earth and stones. Timber support which features in most photos on Portal has now been removed, so the more southerly chamber looks even better.
Delightful location - the walk over the field feels more like a procession, with the chambers looking more impressive all the time.

Acces to the 8' x 11' hexagonal chamber to this earth-house is by a trapdoor although originally it wa a sloping passage. The walls are of drystone masonry and upright slabs, its roof of overlapping lintels supported on four heavy pillars.

Ri Cruin submitted by caradoc68 on 23rd Feb 2012. This lovely cairn dates from the Bronze Age and is pretty new when it comes to the Kilmartin landscape. Hidden away in some trees just of the beaten track with its two kist's, this Cairn has a lot to offer with its large Kist's and its rock art of axeheads and possibly a caving of a boat in one of these kists !!.
