Stanton Moor 4 submitted by PaulM on 31st Aug 2001. General view of Stanton Moor IV (Derbyshire)Overlooking the gritstone moorlands to the east and south, Stanton Moor IV, although referred to as an embanked stone circle, is more reminiscent of a ringcairn. It is now completely covered in heather, but the egg-shaped ring of the embankment can be seen raised up above the ground and is approximately 12.5m by 13.5m internally in diameter. There appears to be one entrance to the south-west.A number of small stones survive on the site, including one...

Originally a Later Neolithic or Early Bronze Age round barrow this now consists of three piles of stones known as the Three Men of Gardom’s, which were placed there during the 18th century, supposedly commemorating the death of three shepherds in the snow.

Stoke Flat submitted by PaulM on 1st Sep 2001. Froggatt Edge stone circle (aka Stoke Flat), Derbyshire GR: SK249768
Froggatt Edge stone circle is set on a flat shelf, overlooking the picturesque Derwent Valley.
Often referred to as Stoke Flat, the site is complex, though now sadly quite ruined. It consists of an embanked stone circle with two entrances exactly opposite, to the north-north-west and south-south-east. Traces of dry-stone walling in the northern entrance suggest that it may have been deliberately blocked at some time in p...

Eyam Moor 2 submitted by PaulM on 31st Aug 2001. General view of Eyam Moor II stone circle. GR:SK231789. Mentioned on several occasions by antiquarians, Eyam Moor II stone circle was only rediscovered in 1983, which is rather surprising considering its close proximity to the well used footpath. This embanked stone circle is now somewhat ruined and submerged. One of the smallest sites of Derbyshire, it is approximately 8m by 7.5m in diameter with only four low stones, ranging in height between 0.15m and 0.3m, set into the bank. The circle is co...
